Very fast , very accurate , very deadly . Just make good shot
out to 300 Yds and make sure there is no brush in your way .

I've killed quite a few with the .22-250. But that was a long time ago. I prefer something at least .243 or bigger.

Nothing wrong with it if you are a good shot.

They leave a nasty little wound. Hard for too much of anything to survive something that catastrophic.

This is NOT a beginners gun. I saw a really disappointed kid that hit a BIG deer with a 22-250. Knocked it over, then it got up and took off. Was seen limping around for a few more weeks.

They will work but there are probably better choices. You'll kill a few and wound a lot.

My favorite meat rifle.Carried it the day after Christmas last year on a quick doe hunt, and shot a twelve point.

Shot placement!!! If in doubt, back out!

It will do the job but not my first choice in a deer rifle. Probably the best varmint rile out there. I have whacked coyotes at close to 350 yards.

What if he is taking head shots?
I bet you hunt with a .300wm or bigger.

.22-.250 is a great round. However, like ALL calibers it is shot placement that counts.

Illegal to use on big game in some state's and not allowed on many ranches, mine included.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

My uncle shoots one and won't shoot anything else. He culls many, many deer on his place with that little .22-250!! Last year he had over 100+ does that needed culling!! He has some thick deer from protein feeding year around for the past several years. I grew up shooting a little anemic .22 hornet and killed several deer, javilinas and bobcats with it!! Never lost a deer witht that punny little thing. It's to funny when people think you need big bored whizz bang magnums to kill deer. Now especially when there are such a good selection of non-varmint hunting rounds for deer!!

I don't focus on the rifle as much as the bullet. People have killed hogs with 22 pistols, 45-70s and everything in between.

I've never owned a 22-250 but have known those that do. A good solid bullet in a good solid place will kill a deer. But, that's true of any caliber.

I knew a guy that lost one shot with a 22-250 (I found it a week later with it's bottom jaw shot off) and I know a guy that lost one with a 300 mag.

People saying they've never lost a deer is like a motorcycle rider saying he's never laid it down. An accurate response is "Not yet".

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

Lots of people have shot deer with every caliber and knocked them down but I think their are better choices.

If your shooting doe at reasonable ranges then I think its ok for a skilled shooter.

the problem is that most 22-250 bullets are designed for varmints and expand to quickly, under no circumstance do I think they are a good choice for a mature buck as I have seen first hand a 22-250 fail to penetrate a bucks shoulder and graze off to the front resulting in a very disappointed child and a father that was less than pleased.

Also think about the size of deer you shoot, if its the small bodied kind from south Texas or ones from west Texas that can dress out at 200lbs.

Lots of people talk about how many deer they have dropped with .223, 22-250, 220swift and 22 hornets but you never here any one admit they lost one.

i see this first hand as a guide, you hear a shot go pick the guy up "hey bob i heard your .22-250 crack off did you drop him?"...."no I didnt shoot must have been some one else".

next day buzzards are flyin and that guys on the do not return list.

Just my 2 cents, but with hunting being so expensive and time consuming why take the chance I like my hunters to have a .25cal or better .270 being Ideal and if they are very experienced a .243 will do.

Use a good bullet make good shots and post pics of your kills using that .22-250!!!! Bullets have gone a long ways in a few years!! They make smaller calibers expand and penetrate like never before. When a 60 grain .223 barnes tsx bullet goes through a bone and penetrates just as much as a .308 and .358 that is most impressive!! You can shoot the same bullet through the .22-250 with much sucess, just stay away from the BT and varmint HP. Use a good 55 grain or heavier SP, Barnes TSX or partition and bring meat home!!

They are not for everyone but will work. I have been shooting a 223 at deer and hogs for years. I started out with a 270 but bought the 223 for varmits, I load 60 grain partitions in it and it will devestate deer. I shot an old doe last year in the shoulder, it brouke both shoulders and exited at 100 yards. If you use the right bullets and good shot placment they will kill anything.
I guess I might be like an oddbal but I kill deer with everythig, from 22cal centerfires to 300wby to 54 cal hawkin to compound bow. Just be competant with your weapon and practice and you will be fine.

My only question is why?
Because you can?
I feel it is too small, and if the conditions are not 100% it is inhumane. Will it kill? Yeah. So will a .22. Will it kill with respect to the deer, or will the deer die painfully over the next few days...

I like the 22-250. You dont have to worry about your shoulder getting torn off. So you can take your time and make a good shot. Its all about the shot placement with the 22-250.

Neck shot gun. Bullet is too light and small for consistent quick kills on large, body shot deer.

Like i said before, after the high cost of ammo, i gave my 22-250 a shot! Man i shoot barnes tsx's and loaded them at around 3700 fps, wow my other rifles will stay in the closet! That includes my 257 weatherby i used to use here in Texas. The longest shot was a little over 250 yards. That's probably the longest i will shoot even with my magnum. I am not too comfortable shooting at 300+ yards. I have shot several deer including one that field dressed at 185 down in south texas. Even hogs, at that velocity nothing has walked more than 10 yards! The destruction it makes and i think it has to do with the velocity, is awesome!! Breaking shoulders, nasty wounds. My friends cannot believe the damage it makes, it looks like the damage my 257 does!

How big of an exit wound does the 22-250 leave on varmits?

Be kind with your words, thankful to your Creator and generous with the meat from your hunt.

Why is it when somebody asks a question about the 22-250, some people jump on the "not legal in all States." I would bet that he is asking about Texas, and not some odd-ball State, nor is he probably coming to hunt at your ranch or another ranch. If he were booking a hunt at your ranch, I would bet he would know the rules well before booking, or at least at booking, and know that some people have a minimum caliber.

As for the 22-250, I've killed several deer with it, and can say, at 110 yards, the big doe I shot behind the shoulder with a 50 grain BT, there was a pass-thru and she went no further than 10-yards before falling over DRT. I've never lost a deer to the 22-250, and I guess its because I'm picky about my shot placement and don't take a shot I don't think can be made for a quick kill.

Go for it I say!
