So, got rained on all weekend, all 3 of my Montec CS are rusting around the tip and down the edge of the blades. Im really not happy, going to contact G5 and if they do not accomodate I will be switching to something else.
Anyone else have this problem? Im very disappointed.

The Montec CS is carbon steel. Carbon steel rusts. It's a bad side efect of getting a sharper edge and being able to sharpen them. The regular Montec's are stainless and you shouldn't have this problem.

but they are dull and cost me a deer this weekend. Were they sharp and then dulled after a few hrs in the rain? I'm asking because I plan on using the the Montec CS this year and this would be an issue. If so I might have to switch to the stainless Montec. Thanks

mine are still sharp. But I know Carbon Steel will rust,m but how can they manufacture a broadhead so prone to it. I thought surely some kind of compound or allow would be added to avoid this issue.
Poor deal!

I hear a lot about the regular Montecs not being sharp. I've got about 15 and I've got all of them razor sharp, so sharp, it will shave the hair off my legs.

my Stainless Montecs are all used/have killed/been resharpened and are all extremely sharp! These things are great! I will continue to use them and If the slick trick arent substantially better, I will buy more! I love the original Montec!

its carbon steel. G5 in no way hides the fact that they can rust. you should have oiled or put some wax on you blades before you blame g5. or mabey some red bearing or whte lithium grease that will stay on longer than oil.

I understand they are Carbon Steel, would you really purchase $40 broadheads and expect to see them rust in their first outing? In one weekend of rain? Would it not be a good idea to recommend coating them with something. Should I have ASSUMED, "Hey I need to oil my broadheads before hunting with them so they do not rust." Perhaps some folks dont know what metals will rust or wont, perhaps some like me would think an alloy would be introduced to AVOID rusting. It is possible, it is plausible. I appreaciate your interst, but yes I will blame G5. I would never ever buy a broadhead anticipating its vulnerability to rust. I would have thought this would have been considered and avoided in manufacturing. OR, atleast noted on their website or perhaps on the box. I LOVE G5 products so dont think I am criticizing their company. BUT, i am disappointed in this mishap. My fault, perhaps you think so. do you own any knives? carbon steel perhaps? do you take care of those blades with oil or do you keep them dry and without protective lubrication?
seems to me theres little difference between the blades of your broadheads and the blades of your favorite knife. both need edge care. as for this magical alloy you want, thats what you had with regular montecs, stainless. i bought my CS montecs because CS can hold a better edge and is sharper.
i dont think G5 is required to think for you, you obviously didn't do proper equipment maintenance before you hunted, and now you have rust. sharpen them with some oil on the stone, everything's back to normal.

Adger, if it makes you feel any better, I had no clue about them rusting either. So far, I haven't hunted in the rain, but I will certainly be applying some oil to them to prevent rusting.
This certainly makes sense...I've got some Cleveland wedges made of carbon steel and they rust (which is what you want since the rusty patches make the ball grip and bite more).
What kind of oil should we use on these? Is it okay to just rub the oil on? How often should we apply?

It's like a pocket knife... Just put a thin layer of oil for protection.

I haven't been able to hunt with the Montec's yet but they fly great. I have the Stainless Steel version, so I can't comment on the CS.
I have used Steel Force broad heads and loved them, I liked the sabertooth series and have the stainless steel in that also, they have lifetime resharpening (free) so I don't worry about it. I'm going to try the montecs out this year as far as the killing performance. They have great potential and from the kills I've seen they are devastating. Hope it works out for you.

I just rubbed a little mineral oil on all of my Montec CS broadheads and practice broadheads. They haven't rusted yet, so thanks for the heads up.
