.270 is what I use when in a stand but when I am out stalking in south TX the old Marlin 30-30 will be with.

7 mag or 6.5x55. I also have a scoped 44mag if they are close enough.

270 or 25-06, depends which i decide to take.

HunterTed, i am asking this in all seroiusness, why do you need that gun for texas whitetails? Is it just what you are comfortable with, and shoot it better than your other guns?

22-250, 243 WCF, 30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, or 12 ga slugger in light brush.
I also have a scoped 44mag SB 10-1/2" under 75 yards.

.240 Weatherby, It's fast, flat and kills like hot lightning, without all the meat damage of the larger mags.

Im sorry, it was a question I thought worthy of asking. I dont care what anybody shoots, it can be a 50 bmg for all i care. But a 338 win mag has a good thump to it, and there are lots of guns out there easier to shoot, IMO. SO I was curious why the guy uses that particular round.

My 7mm-08 unless I'm hunting senderos w/possible longer shots - then it's a 300 Win Mag.

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Lora(campcook) will be using her 257 Roberts.

Depending on where I am at, it will be anything from a 22 Hornet, up to and including a 458 Win. Mag.

I can list what it won't be, 22-250, 243, 260 Rem., 270, 308, 30-06, 338 oh wait, I forgot, I use a 340 Weatherby, a 338's big brother.

Sorry, about turning the thread hostile Mike.

If I get a go ahead from the Doc's this year and can tolerate the thump, I have two guns that have never been blooded yet ...a M70 300Winnie and a CZ 9.3x62 ...otherwise old reliable is a Tikka WT Hunter 270.
I'd really like to use the 9.3 and see just what the excitement is all about from hitting a WT sized critter with a slow moving 285 gr'er at about 24/2500 fps...supposed to be kinda like a 35 Whelen on steriods.
I KNOW what the 300Winnie in 180's will do but I came into this gun earlier this year trading when I thought I could go chase Elk this year until all the medical crap fell on my head this summer. But the 9.3x62 is the African version of a 30'06 and is used on everything that walks or swims for shots under 250/300 yards. If not this year then for sure next!
Got another NIB gun coming too if the dealer can find me a deal on a T3 in 270, 308, '06 or 7-08 in a SS/syn.
