Well boys...I can remember counting days..but know its hours!!!I have been worthless this week at work. I wanted to ask the forum a question. When you are setting there sat about 7 am????Are you going to hold out for big buck? Are you just going to harvest a doe? Are you going to wait till sat afternoon or sunday mourning? Pretty stupid questions b/c its hunting..you never know what will happen..Just wanted to hear from a few of you! We cant shoot bucks with bows at our place(just does and spike)...Good luck to all!

I have been pondering this for a couple of days... I can;t make my mind up, I'll probably play it by ear.... maybe the hogs will show up and make the choice easy for me

I'll harvest a doe if I see one. If Tahtonka walks by, he's getting one behind the shoulder too. Definately need some deer meat! We are almost out. Also need some more leather for a project.

I doubt I take a doe until at least Monday. I have had several 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 8 points coming to my feeder. The largest is about 16 inches wide the others are an inch or 2 smaller. I think any of them are in danger come Saturday morning.

I might shoot a doe opening day, it is 50/50. If not, I will shoot one here in Nolan county. Just depends on how many I see and if there are any bucks around. Being the first weekend, I don't think I will shoot a buck unless he is 140 P&Y or better. I got three months to hunt big boy and I know, there are some monsters in the area (160+). On the other hand, I will play some string music to any hog I see though. Hopefully there are not too many of them. I am hunting in Oklahoma this weekend, ten miles across the border, and opening day isn't until Sunday. I am only allowed one buck and one doe during archery season and a buck and doe during rifle season which is only 16 days long. However, if I don't shoot a buck with my rifle tag, I can use it for archery. So, I am going to hold out for the biggest buck in the area. I guess this is a great excuses to spend more time in the woods and I love the challenge. Good luck to everyone!

For bow season I've got a few brush blinds built, I'll try them a few times and see if something big shows. If nothing shows, I'll just watch and enjoy. I never shoot does until the end of season, after the rut, and when the fawns have matured enough to survive with out them.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I don't like shooting pregnant does...becoming more of a softy these days. The fawns get run off of the does during the rut(in a month) anyway. Deer population is so high in my area that they will just remain with their doe family group. Have never gutted a pregnant doe and would probably upset me to do so. I know...I'm a wuss!!

I will take the doe but probably will end up shooting the hogs that have been eating the corn up. Need to thin out as many as possibly.

Folks, Grow Up and get a life. This is not directed at any one person in particular, but when Lora and I do the late season cow elk hunts in Dec. and early Jan. in Colo. Those fetuses are almost the size of a new born whitetail fawn. Those pregnant cows require more forage, as does a pregnant doe. Pregnant is pregnant, 48 hours or 4 weeks. JMO.

I plan to see which way the wind is blowning and watch a trail down wind of my feeder. I would bet that's what most Texan's will do.

You know biologist are now buying into the idea that you should harvest more young does and button bucks. Reasons being the older does are more likely to have surviving twin fawns. A young doe will let them get eaten. The mature bucks and does need the forage and they are your brood stock. That is natures way. The young and old are taken by predators.

My idea...well jbh & I have been talking ALL week about it. I'll hunt until 8 am and if I don't see a monster, I'll take a doe at 8ish...I'm just too excited to wait much longer. Our landowner also doesn't want us to shoot bucks with bows - he's worried about us missing??? Me miss??? I don't know if I can sit on the stand all morning...I'll be too excited to see if jbh or his brother in law get anything...

i don't bow hut but will be hunting for the first time with a muzzleloader in Arkansas in a couple of weeks. Will gladly shoot a doe or any legal buck (there is a two buck limit with 3 point antler restrictions).
When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible. Dale Earnhardt

Been waiting for the right weather and now it's here. Got a couple of tree stands mainly for does. Saving the good ones for bucks in the rut. But if the pigs are walk under me they die. Never been good enough to zing a turkey from a tree.
