One of the freakiest things I have ever seen happened with a 300win mag 180gr. balistic silvertip.
Cousin had a BIG 8 point come out and was looking straight at him and in tall grass, he took the only shot he had and shot th buck in the head.
I heard the shot and he called me up and told me what went down and I thought that bucks head would have opened up like a ripe canalope. The bullet made entry just below the left eye....AND THATS IT!!!!!
There was the entry below the eyes and a couple of drips of blood comming out the back of the head but THATS IT? It was a 100yrd shot so that 180gr 300winmag bullter had enough UMFFFFF!!! to EXPLODE that bucks head but nothing and we got the buck mounted and you can even tell.
One thing that was the biggest buck I have ever seen me and my cousin are in no way "small people" and it was every thing we could do to load that buck.

thats my favorite round in my 300wm... can't say I've ever shot anything in the head and not had a "decent" exit. lol, I shot a doe a cpl years ago and had to turn in tooth fragments instead of a complete jawbone.

I was not impressed with their performance in my 30-06. They grouped better than any other bullet I have ever shot, but every deer I shot ran with little blood, and when recovered had very little tissue damage. I almost lost a few because there was no blood on the ground, just lucked out and stumbled across them.

Please send pic of ANALOAP. Never seen one. Does it look anything like a BAROFSOAP?

I purchased two boxes at Dick's sporting goods for $15.00 per box in .308 (168 grain). I've never used them before, but for the price I couldn't pass them up.

I'm not impressed with the silvertip 180g in 30-06 at all.I shot an elk and the bullet passed thru without expanding. If it didn't split the heart open i don't know far he would of went.I changed to the Power Point on another one and the exit hole was bigger and the inside was a lot of mushy tissue.

I know a guy in the Northwest who uses the "Bonded" Silvertip 180g in 30-06, and that is all he shoots. He says it works great on big whitetails.

I almost lost a few because there was no blood on the ground, just lucked out and stumbled across them. I had almost the same experience with my 270. I shot two deer with them and exactly ZERO blood anywhere. The remainder of the box I bought is now relegated to hog killing duty. I want a full pass through with the rounds I shoot.

I changed and started using the Winchester Balliatic tips several years ago and I like thier accuracy but the only problem I have seen is they don't have deep penetration. I have used the ,223 55gr out of a Bushmaster with a 20" barrel making head shots. Up to last year I have never had one exit, the one last year entered just to the left of the right eyeand exited behind the right ear. Skinned the head to investigate and found that the bullet actually went in on a suture(seam)on the skull which evidently didn't provide enough resistance to cause the bullet to frag completely. This year I'll be trying out a 7mm-08 and I'll be using Winchester Balliatic tips in 140gr on deer to see how they work, but I think I'll be trying neck shots at the base of the head. I've seen several deer shot on my lease with this same caliber and using ballistic tips for heart lung shots and most have run off various distances before dying.
