I'm not.

Oh, did I mention that hunting a feeder &/or baiting is illegal here in Missouri? We have so many crop fields that feeders & baiting are not needed.

that's the only way to "hunt"

sitting in a treestand on a feeder is not hunting IMHO

sure it gets results but hunting? I'm a purist by heart. finding, stalking, is an important part of it. now if I depended on it for food yes
feeder is the to bring in the meat. just as a trotline is more effective for catfish.

Well the fact is your humble opinion is judemental and condescending. For the record it doesn't thrill me either to sit on a feeder but to say it's not hunting is wrong. I wouldn't sit over bait for bears or even chase them with dogs but I won't belittle another for choosing to do so. I prefer to catch fish on a rod and reel but trying to land a 30 pound cat on a trot line is no easy feat either.
We choose different methods and enjoy different challenges but it's all hunting and no one should be belittled for legal, moral and ethical choices. I understand putting up your choice or preference but let's not be too mean about it.

Whether you use them or not, there is no denying that feeders are an effective management tool.

I would MUCH rather stalk game over large amounts of rolling plains & prairies or thru the valleys & mountains. BUT, I don't have that opportunity. Where I hunt is flat & covered w/trees. I don't bow hunt so the only option I have is to find a spot to put a feeder & try to get a blind in line of sight w/it w/out mesquites & cedars blocking a view. I hunt out of a blind w/a feeder. I think whichever way you choose to do it, it is hunting. There is no gaurantee that a deer will come to my feeder. I'm not a huge fan of highfence but who cares. I love to hunt & will do it however I legally(& ethically) can. Just my $.02.

Wow, that is *not* how I meant it at all.

Sorry for sounding condescending.

But, for the record:
Quote:

hunt
–verb (used with object)

to chase or search for (game or other wild animals) for the purpose of catching or killing.
2. to pursue with force, hostility, etc., in order to capture (often fol. by down): They hunted him down and hanged him.
3. to search for; seek; endeavor to obtain or find (often fol. by up or out): to hunt up the most promising candidates for the position.

But really, I didn't intend to start a flame.

So "to chase or search for" is the only definition of hunting? Does that mean that scouting and finding a good trail and sitting and watching that trail is not hunting?

Now that's funny I don't care who you are. I hunt feeder's, stalk, still hunt, and just get plain lucky mjust of the time. Them or some sneaky critters thy are. LOL. IMO it doesn't might how you hunt as long as you do it legally, and with ethics. So get out there and hunt, but don't forget to bring the next generation of hunter's with you sometimes. HUNT HARD and have FUN.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

Actually this year I plan to hunt the dirt roads mostly. I've had more mature bucks come to the corn that I've spread out by ATV feeder than to regular feeders. Find a dirt road that has plenty of cover to either side and pour it out. I think many of the more mature deer feel comfortable away from the feeders. IMO

Here's mine from a couple years ago. he wasn't the biggest rack I saw but at 6-1/2 years old, he was the most mature. I kiiled him 15 minutes before sundown on the last day of the hunt.

I'm hunting an area where there's a huge creek with steep banks that the animals can't cross.....and a small drainage comes in and creates a natural crossing. It looks like a highway!! I've got a Primos Vision pop-up blind set up and I've been hauling in a 5-gallon bucket full of corn and PigOut every 3-5 days. The deer and the hogs are tearing it up.....can't wait for Saturday!!

I do have a feeder at one lease, but opening day I'll be on another lease, with no feeder, or stand. Looking for a great big Muley in rough country. I'll go after the meat does and smaller bucks a little later.
