Anyone shoot a Browning A-Bolt with a "Boss" muzzle brake?
I bought a .300 mag a few months ago and was very pleased with the performance, except for the noise. I've shot various rifles with muzzle brakes, this being the largest, but none have ever rung my ears like this one. The only time I have shot this rifle without ear muffs was a few weeks ago when I shoot a hog. My left ear hurt for days. I will never shot this gun again without hearing protection! I'm thinking about buying the Boss-Cr, which does not have the port holes like the regular Boss. Anyone else have this problem or use the Boss-CR?

My rifle came with both the BOSS-Muzzlebrake and the BOSS-CR. I've never used the BOSS-Muzzlebrake and never will. You might want to check with Browning. At one time they were giving away BOSS-CRs to anyone who asked for one.

Ive had one in 7mag for several years.I always use plugs when practicing, but have shot it without to see the results, not to good. I have shot it hunting without plugs but dont recomend it.Sure dont shot it out of a box stand.I usually have the left plug in and have the right one handy when hunting.I can shoot it with only the left plug and get by.The gun is just so accurate I dont want to mess with it.

I bought my wife a Browning with the BOSS. It's only a 243 (why a 243 needs a muzzle break still puzzles me) it is annoyingly loud. I personally do not like it myself, but the wife don't mind shootin it. I can only imagine how lous a 300 win mag would be with it.

If you are going to shoot with a muzzle brake you might want to invest in a "walkers game ear" for hunting with braked guns.

The Walker Game Ear is a great product, period. But a BOSS-CR is a lot cheaper and it *will* be just as accurate as the BOSS-Muzzlebrake. The BOSS part is the same.

They do make some noise. I'm usually in a tower or
stand and have enough time to slip my plugs in if I
start seeing deer. I really like the way it cuts recoil-
by about 50% on most loads. I've shot both 300's and
a really bad kicking 7mm that both were turned to feather
kickers after the brake was installed. Also, at a range
it really helps. To each his own.

Anyone besides me ever noticed the dirty looks that anyone with a braked rifle gets while shooting at the range?
I had a Browning stainless stalker in 7 Mag with the boss. It was just too long and too loud for me. I sold it and never looked back. It was an accurate rifle but no more so than my Rem 700 7 mag.
I just couldn't warm up to it doubt I'll ever own another rifle with a brake but that's just my preferences and are not meant to influence anyone else.

I've given a few of those dirty looks.

Why didn't you just replace the BOSS-Muzzlebrake with the BOSS-CR? Perhaps it didn't exist at that time? The BOSS-CR came out later, IIRC.
