I just recently got a basset hound. He's only 12 weeks old right now but we're working on the simple obdedience. I was wondering when the best time to start training him for the field is, i know i have awhile but i was wondering around the best time to start training

Now really, once you get him to be able to come consistently and listen, you can take him to the field.

I would start with some small playful drags in the back yard, then move on to the longer and harder tracks in the field. Tracking/blooding dogs and coon dogs train very similarly as far as tracking is concerned. If you have any questions about how to do drags or anything like that shoot me a pm and I'll gladly call you and talk about it.
