What are yall's opinions on the best scope for an AR15? I mainly shoot pigs with it from close range to about 200 yds. Anything from $100-$1,000. Just want to hear whats the best!

For close range hog hunting you can't beat the Eotech 552. It has no magnfication, so it is best at under 100 yards, but for that it is great!!

I had a Meopta 4x16x44 on my Rock River, until my son stole it to go on top of his new 700 SPS Tactical. We both really like the Meopta. It's pricey, but you can sure see well during low light conditions, and the zoom is really nice. That same scope is not in the budget as a replacement, and I am considering the Burris Fullfield since it's not my primary hunting gun.

I dig Acogs.... The Bindon aiming concept works well for me - not to mention the glass is great, compact and illuminated reticle.

It depends upon the range you're shooting from. ACOG for medium range EOTEC for short ranges. You can always put a magnifier on the rail for the EOTEC. If you want a high dollar state of the art scope, go with the US optical.

I just mounted a Leupold Mark Ar 3x9 on mine. Just like all Leupold's, clear as a bell!

Mmmm Hmmm

The best, is well over the $1000 mark, but it is a Schmidt and Bender Short Dot. Ive got one and also have Eotechs with magnifier, Aimpoints and an ACOG. IMO the S&B is the ultimate optic.

I persnally like my Marine Corps trained eye through the open sights. They never fog up, stay clean, easy to adjust, and if they are past 500meters, to heck with it. LOL

USMC Known Distance Course of Fire

STAGE ONE:
Distance Time Rounds Type of Fire Position
200 Yards 20 Min 5 Slow Fire Sitting
5 Slow Fire Kneeling
5 Slow Fire Standing
Notes: During this stage of fire, the Marines are only allowed to load 5 rounds at a time before making a complete safe weapon and changing positions. The total time is 20 minutes for all 15 rounds.

A sling is allowed for all positions except for standing. During the standing position the shooter may either have a tight parade sling, or take it off the weapon.

STAGE TWO:

Distance Time Rounds Type of Fire Position
200 Yards 70 Sec 5/5 Rapid Standing to kneeling
Notes: 5/5= a tactical reload. The Marine is only allowed to load 5 rounds in each magazine. Therefore, the Marine has to reload for the second magazine. Makes for some interesting groups if your not careful to get that natural point of aim back.

A rapid fire means just that; Firing rapidly. (You only have 70 second to get them all out!)

STAGE THREE:
Distance Time Rounds Type of Fire Position
300 yards 5 Min 5 Slow Kneeling

STAGE FOUR:
Distance Time Rounds Type of Fire Position
300 Yards 70 Sec 5/5 Rapid Standing to kneeling
The position change from standing to kneeling is one of the better parts of the range. It really tests the Marines ability to adjust their firing position quickly, just like they might in combat. Drop to the ground and fire.

STAGE FIVE:
Distance Time Rounds Type of Fire Position
500 Yards 10 Min 10 Slow Prone
This yard line is often referred to as "gravy points" because the you really get to take your time here.

The KD is not the same.

Well we are going to glass for every Marine/rifle... And we have been shooting ACOG's on the KD course for score for the past year... Last week on the range and was poping off 500 meter hits 9 out of 10 with my M4 (with high winds)... full value east to west @15.

And as for the eotechs google for reviews and see the problem pop up. I had one a less than 6 months a 512 it would eat batteries and had to send it back for repair. and then I sold it as soon as I got it back.

ATF issued a ruling on 1/12/09 that states: "Any person who is engaged in the business of camouflaging or engraving firearms as described in this ruling must be licensed as a dealer, which includes a gunsmith, under the Gun Control Act." Cav-Aid 2008 NRA Life Member Font Sight Life Member\
