Considering buying a Sig P226 9 MM. Anybody have any thoughts or opinions on this gun? I know they have several different models, so does anybody have a particular model that they really like or dislike?

I've had the bug for a Sig for a good while now, but haven't wanted to cough up the big bucks for one.
If you go to the Sig forum and really dig deep and research your question I think you will find that the consensus is that slightly older Sigs are much better than brand new ones. At least that is what I have read.
A similar issue seems to be the case with Remington shotguns. I just bought a like new twenty-five year old 1100. I wouldn't trade it even for any brand new 1100/1187.

I've shot my fathers 226, and it is flawless in operation. It is a little heavy, and little big for concealment. But for a open carry gun on the ranch or a home defense gun, it is great. Very accurate for a semiauto. I will buy one for my own use, bu for now I'll still to my XD-45, Beretta M9, and Keltec P32. Which I gotta say those guns work very well too.

Well I like them. Obviously, but we run a gun shop and can realistically carry whatever. WE've tried everything, and still carry Sigs. I still carry a P226 daily, since 1986. My wife and son both have P228's. If I was buying new today I'd probably buy a P229....stainless, caliber change capability, a little more compact.
You cannot find a better handgun for the money, period.
I am not knocking others, as there are other good guns, but Sigs are the best.

I'll have to agree with Sig. Last time I looked the 226 was the standard side arm of the SEALS. I'm not a big fan of double action triggers, but the new DAK triggers solve much of this problem. I'd also have to second his rec on the 229 if you're looking for concealed carry.

Excellent guns. The German guns are better than the American. Overpriced, heavy, but very reliable and well made. They have a cult following with some folks.

I carry a P226 in .40 with the DAK trigger system and I love it. Besides being accurate, reliable, and fitting my hand perfectly, they just look good. Incidentally, I don't know if you're considering the DAK trigger. If you get that model and want hogue rubber grips for it, you have to get grips made for the DAK version. Standard grips don't work.

My dad owned a sig ever since I could remember. They have always been my dream gun. I have a P226R Blackwater edition and I would not trade it for the world. The 229's are more concealable and are everything the 226 is. as for it being overpriced... Definatly not true. yeah, it costs 200$ more than a Glock or an XD, but it's worth every penny. GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Want a reliable plastic gun then glock is the way to go.

The cost is the only reason I don't have one right now. Anybody know of any dealers in the DFW area that have good prices? I have looked at a couple of the chain stores and they are all selling them at or above the MSRP.

I have a 226(9mm) and love it! Very accurate and easy to break down and clean. I carry it everyday.
