I've never paid any attention to them. What is the best bolt action being made (that doesn't cost and arm and a leg)? Are there any desirable models that you can only find used?

In my opinion the best 22 Mag bolt gun for the money is going to be the Ruger 77/22!

I had one for awhile and loved it! Feels and looks alot like the full size Rugers and the rotary magazine has proven its self to be as reliable as anything else out there!

I am also interested in some information on the .22 magnum.

I have been looking at both a Marlin and a Savage at Gander Mt.- for the last 6 months.

I don't remember the price on the Marlin but the Savage is $219 with a composite stock and 5 shot magazine. It has the accutrigger.

i would like to hear from folks who own these rifles or have some experience with them. What did you use them for?

Thanks for any information.

I personally hate them but they will shoot, Savage with the accutrigger would be a good choice.

Marlin 982VS is a superbly accurate rifle for short to medium ranges.

X2, I think the price of the ammo is too high, but it will drive tacks all day.

I like the Marlins. Very accurate. Priced around $200.

Beautiful rifle, Johnny Loco! I'd be afraid to use it!

Several of you have mentioned the Marlin, with no model number, and one of you mentioned the Marlin 982VS. Is this the one you meant when you just said Marlin?

marlin but you might want to look at the 17 hmr. i have always had 22 mag but recently got a marlin 17 hmr over another mag. reason being there is a better option of ammo for the 17. ballistics are close to the same. dont get me wrong i love the 22 mag and not trying to confuse ya but just take a look at where you buy ammo and see what they offer more of.

I once drank muddy water out of a hoof print and was dang glad to get it.

I have a marlin bolt action & a remmington semi-auto, I love the 22 mag it is my favorite round. If i was going to buy another one it would be a henry golden boy lever action.

The 882 is an obsolete model, right?

I have a savage 17 hmr... IT'S BAD AZZ!!!!! Will stack bullets out to 100 yds. I've taken a 80ld sow and her 15 lb piglet @ 130 yds one shot each DRT.

Have a marlin 22 mag it shoots 1 1/2 in groups at 100 yds.

I'll take the hummer over the 22mag any day!

X3. Great round and a fun tack driver, but the ammo cost is kinda bummer.

I had Marlin 25MN until recently and loved the gun, but couldn't justify keeping a .22, .22 magnum and .223.

I was looking for a rifle with open sights and the Savage's stock fit me much better than the Marlin. The sights line up easy on the Savage and the Marlin requires that I adjust my head to be able to see the sights.

I agree the Marlin looks like a very nice gun but it comes down to sighting with iron sights and the Savage is the winner there.

It's a matter of trying to justify another rimfire but it's still interesting to get first hand information.

Thanks for the input.

I'd take a 22Mag with V-max over a 17 any day.

The 22 mag is a killer.

I'd take em all. No need to justify. "Cause I want to" is reason enough.
