From the Outdoor Annual page 56 • Any person, regardless of physical ability, may use a crossbow to hunt game animals or game birds in any county, including Grayson County, during a general open season or Eastern spring turkey season.
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Why is i crossbow treated so differently than a compound bow? Why should it be treated the same? There isn't anything the same about the two.

Dude, get you an OUTDOOR annual and read it. The regulations are in there. Some of the regs are a little fuzzy and hard to understand but most are easy to comprehend.

For those of you crossbow hunters, have you ever shot a compound bow? have you ever had to hold at full draw for 2 minutes waiting for a deer to turn? have you ever put the amount of time into bow hunting that i have (shooting all through offseason and almost every day during season)??? Have you ever passed on a buck of a lifetime because he was out 50 yards and you didnt wanna make a bad shot??? have you ever had your arm sore after shooting 20 arrows? Just because you crossbow hunters are now allowed to hunt during archery season, that doesnt mean you are a bow hunter!

The game warden told you wrong. Also realize this new regulation ONLY applies to private land, you still cannot use a crossbow year round on most public land.

Crossbow:
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Crossbows are lawful for any person during the Archery-Only Open Season in all counties EXCEPT Grayson County. In Grayson County, no person may use a crossbow to hunt deer during the Archery-Only Open Season (Oct. 3-Nov. 6) unless the person has an upper-limb disability and has in immediate possession a physician's statement that certifies the extent of the disability. An upper-limb disability is a permanent loss of the use of fingers, hand, or arm in a manner that renders the person incapable of using a longbow, compound bow, or recurved bow. Any person, regardless of physical ability, may use a crossbow to hunt game animals or game birds in any county, including Grayson County, during a general open season or Eastern spring turkey season. An archery stamp endorsement is required to hunt deer during the Archery-Only Open Season. An archery stamp endorsement is required to hunt deer at any time in Grayson County, including during the general open season (Nov. 7- Jan. 3) A crossbow is lawful for game animals and game birds, provided: the crossbow has a minimum pull of 125 pounds; the crossbow has a mechanical safety; and the crossbow stock is not less than 25 inches in length. Telescopic sights are lawful.

Open Seasons: Dates shown are opening and closing dates for the open season. The open season includes both dates and all days between. Unless otherwise specified, the open season is a "general" season and all legal means, as specified in this guide, may be used in taking the species.IMPORTANT NOTICE: Crossbows are lawful for any person during the Archery-Only Open Season in all counties EXCEPT Grayson County http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/hunt/general/As I see it crossbow has always been legal during general season and I see no change in this years laws. But I am not the one issuing the tickets I would call the game warren for your county and ask because in the field there is no arguing that you are going to win.

Crossbows have been legal during the general(gun) season for the last 4 or 5 years in Texas,by anyone, handicapped or healthy. Either the Game Warden is confused or you misunderstood what he said.

If you keap reading you will see were it says that Any paerson, Regardless of physical ability, may use a crossbow to hunt game animals or game birds in any county, including Grayson county during a general open season or Eastern spring turkey season. This means that you can legally hunt with a cross bow during archery and gun season. It has been legal to hunt with a crossbow during gun season in the state of Texas for a long time. Im not trying to be a pest but I dont want any one to read this and get the wrong information. What ever game worden is telling you this told you wrong for what ever reason.

Something worth mentioning.
If you're hoping to hunt with a crossbow during ARCHERY ONLY on any public land pretty much anywhere in north texas, forget it. All of the WMA's are still anti-crossbow (or shall I say, require upper limb disability). US Army CoE makes their own rules and have not changed their policy on crossbows. I cannot find any places within 2 hours drive of Dallas that allow a crossbow (public hunt)
If you're lucky to have private land or a lease, provided it is legal to hunt deer in your county in the first place, then you should be fine with a crossbow during archery season but check the regs.
