i hunt with friends of mine at several of the calling contest west of the metroplex and we use tape callers like the johnny stewart callers. i know to some that may seem outdated with the new foxpro callers out today, but our callers work good. i personally have a dennis kirk i use for day calling it's light weight and fits into a fanny pack which makes it easier when a lot of walking is envolved. The tapes we use are all mostly burnham bros. stuff, it seems we have had the best luck with their calls and we always use a red light at night.

I hunt day and night, During the day you need to be in full camo for the best results. A decoy is good to use too. I personally use hand calls that I make and I also have a foxpro that I recorded some distress calls on. Basically if you just back yourself into a bush, where you can see a good area, try to keep the wind in your face. I start out with a soft distress for about 10 seconds and then I'll wait about a minute, if nothing has come in yet I'll get a little bit louder. then wait. I continue this until something comes in. I'll switch to another call if that one doesn't work.. When you get one to come in running , you'll want to whistle at him, to get him to stop. hmm... that's the basics. There is much much more to this sport. I love it! Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope that helps > Aaron

Going good man, going good. I didn't forget about that call I was gonna send ya. I made one and then decided to make you a different one. lol.. but I actually have it on the table right here next to me with your name on it. Let me know what you think about it. I mean it can't be too bad for free right? lol.

I got to get out last week called two stands, One was a crazy stand with a coyote that busted me and started barking and challenge barking. So I hit the male challenge for about 4 howls and then waited about a minute and hit the death cry. He came hauling butt in and ran right over the top of my foxpro at mach 3 I tried barking but he was gone. And then on my second stand later that night I called in A youngster on the first series of one of my medium-high pitch open reeds. He must have been less than 50 yds away from me. I didn't hardly have time to put the call down before he was on top of me. He was a flea hotel too. I guess they are bad this year.
