Going hunting with hoofhunter this weekend and was wondering if anyone wanted the meat? If all goes well there should be two and niether one of us can take it home. We will both be out of town and we just sent two beefs to the ole packers so not much room for anything else. Let me know.

Jasb, I got people who will take it on the spot. No need having somebody else come get, unless you have a friend who wants some.

I shot one outside of Ozona last year. Wife said it was the best meat she had ever tasted I like it better than Whitetail. JMO

If I'm not hunting, I'm hunting something to hunt.

It's not my favorite but it's not worth throwing it away. The backstraps are not bad but I think steaks and stuff like that are not the way to go on it. Every one I have shot I had jerky, sausage(dried, pan, and link), and stew meat, and hamburger meat made.

I was at a lease in west Texas a couple of years ago and one of the hunters shot a beautiful black buck and was just planning on keeping the cape and throwing it away. He told me that he did not care for the meat, but I could not stand to see it get wasted. I took the backstraps and tried cooking them up and I have to say I'd agree with him. I could not eat it, but then I don't know for sure how long it had been in the back of his jeep! Based on that experience, I would not be in a hurry to shoot one, even though they are pretty neat looking. I will vouch for red deer and fallow though....both of them have delicious meat.

Not the tastiest or tenderest piece of meat I have ever ate. I shot my in the hind quartes with bow and ran about 75 yards before falling. could have tensed up real bad before exhuasting, might explain why so tough.
