Income tax is “state” income tax. I looked at that chart and said I’m paying a lot more than that lol. Property tax is killer here.

It's a comparison of state and local taxes only.

Wait! Dry Fire is always preaching about how much better AL taxes are than TX. They’re only .1 percent lower.

Yeah that’s my point. I had to read in the link to know income tax is state only. It still seems low.

Property taxes are absolutely a local tax. The other local tax is sales tax.

7.6% is much lower than reality for many property/homeowners in Texas. Not even close based on skyrocketing property taxes for me. Texas needs real property tax reform.

Our property taxes are outrageous right now and cost of living is very high. That graph is misleading.

Property tax is a local tax, not a state tax. Depending on where you live, it can vary based on county and school district.

Sales tax is state and local. State is 6.25%, and local can vary, 2% max per google.

I agree that it is too low, but probably not by much.
We pay about 4% of our total income in property taxes.
We pay 8.25% sales tax, but based upon bank and CC records, I'd estimate less than half out total income is spent on taxable goods.
That still puts us at less than 8% state and local.

I'd much rather see Texas switch to strictly an income tax or a higher sales tax. Our property tax system is plagued with complexity and inequities. I look at the house across the road from me. It's a larger home than mine, sits on a larger lot, and has a pool. They have three kids in the public school system, we have none. Their property tax bill is about half mine.

Chart must averaged out including super low-income people. If you make any real money in CA the state income tax alone is 10% or more.

There should be a chart of each state's fiscal condition, and there may be one. I bet TX, WY and FL would rank pretty high. IL, CA, and likely NY are broke / insolvent. Taxes may not be high enough there. I read one time that education ranks as the top employer of most states. There are many insolvent teacher pensions around the country. The last time I looked TRS in TX was about 80% funded. These broke pensions will likely get bailed out by broke states and then by a broke US and then by ???

I don’t want to be burdened with paying for the DFW multi million HS football stadiums and county hospitals providing free healthcare to all the illegal aliens there.

That's exactly what I said. Property taxes are local....what kind of point are you trying to make?

Again, what is the point of your post? It's like you're trying to prove a point to me by stating what I already stated.

The OP chart says "% of personal income paid to state and local taxes".
