Nice first day. Will be here through the end of September. The area we stay isn’t liberal.

I’m gonna need some fresh info from you and others about what places to stay on our next RV trip to Colorado. Not Durango this time, but did ya’ll suggest Pagosa Springs?

I am jealous. Son and I did some trout fishing in Raton, New Mexico on the way to Pikes Peak and had a blast.

Where did y’all fish at Raton?
I always wondered if there was trout in that little creek you can see down below Raton pass.

check the salida/monarch pass area, late summer on the arkansas can be kick arse for browns and big rainbows.

south fork is another, used to be a nice park on the west end of town.

We would be more likely to suggest South Fork or Creede. We’re not into places like Durango or Pagosa Springs. Sometimes I might have to drive to Durango to fly out on business but I’ll prefer the connection out of Alamosa if possible.

Lake City is neat and a great base for off-roading. Lots of places we can and do go in the truck. On vacation this week for travel from Fredericksburg and a few days of fun. Probably drive to the old Summitville tomorrow.

It’s a cool place to enjoy and spend the summer at 8,200 feet before it gets too commercialized.

Sugarite Canyon, I believe. We used corn niblets and limited out within 30 minutes. Btw game warden checked us, we were fine and passed all inspections.

Good luck with Alamosa, I've tried a couple times, quicker to go to C.Springs

FYI for anyone travelling between Gunnison and Montrose. The bridge across Blue Mesa on Hwy 50 at mile marker 136 has been shut down until repairs are made. Inspectors found sizable cracks in the steel and other anomalies. There is no ETA for reopening, likely many months. The only passable route is the dirt road CR 26, Lake City cutoff, which is only open via pilot car 4 times per day. It's an 87 mile detour and takes 2 hours between Montrose and Gunnison. No commercial vehicles or trailers of any kind are allowed to travel.

Heck Wyoming can be as remote as you want it and our fishing is better, lol.

Kidding aside enjoy your stay and venture up our way for a weekend. FS camping should be open by late May maybe not til June.

FYI, the west end of that lake is in Colorado, but most of it is in New Mexico. Lot's of bears in that canyon too. Got to see my first wild bear in that park.

Next year we are probably staying around Cody for the long summer then 2 weeks in YNP and GTNP for the second half of September before heading South.

I’ve connected out of there to Denver and onward then back several times without issue. It’s easy driving so the wife can drop me off then have the truck for the week. Alamosa is 45 minutes and Colorado Springs 3.5 hours.

We used to go to Creede every summer on our motorcycles... got a coaching buddy that has a cabin there and i loved going up to the lakes and fishing. Some of the prettiest and most serene places i've been to...may have to make the trip this summer!!

Pretty chilly at night I'm betting, we've been down into the 20's last few nights.

It’s been getting down below freezing every night and up to 60ish each day. Went fishing this morning and there was some ice at the edges. We are loving it.
