Seeing the other thread about the floating fire ants made me think that I need to go buy more ant killer soon. I don’t know what to get because it seems everything I buy just moves them over a few feet and the wife sure don’t like the big dead spots where I pour gas on em. What has anyone used that actually works?

Amdro fire ant bait always worked well for me.
With any pesticide be sure to follow the instructions.
To be determined

Extinguish fire ant bait is my go to. Works well. It has a sterilizer added to keep them from reproducing. I found you can just spread about 1-2 cups in any area and they will find it. Do that about every 1/2 to one acre.

I've switched to Orthene. Broadcasting Amdro does not seem to impress fire ants in my area any longer and pouring it directly on the mount is not killing them...they just move.
I hate using Orthene because it kills bees, but the ants have to go.

I've never had any lasting luck with any of those big box store insecticides.
Get liquid Bifen IT. Mix it as directed in water and pour it on the mound. They don't just move, they stop moving. For good.
Only thing I've found that really works. Look on Do My Own Pest Control.com.

Surrender has become my go to for fire ants. In the back yard where the chickens are i just poke a hole in the mound put a little i the hole and cover it up within 2 days no more ants and no relocation of the mound.

Not good If you are not putting poison out, how is it that you have not had fire ants in 20 years? probably had the good green stuff, formally known as DDT. Its the good stuff that works, no money in yearly, bi yearly application, or every 5th year etc
