I agree with the many others that almost any 308 bullet works well for you application. I have not hunted nearly as much as others but this year I started back up after years. Loaded me 150gr nosler ballistic tip @ 2625fps on a 16" barrel and it worked very well. I have in years past used the very standard Hornday 150gr interlock bullet in 308. I believe this is the bullet Honrady started the company with. I think this is still a great bullet, let's say like < 200 yards-ish.

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I’m saying any 308 non FMJ as well. My last one was with a 150 Speer Gold Dot which is same as Federal Fusion.

I just load cheap Hornady Interlocks in 160 or 180g over some Varget or cheap Win 748 and they end up extremely dead. Ramshot Big Game works pretty good with the 180s also.

Sight your rifle in properly and then shoot-em-in the ear. That way you improve your skills and waste less meat.

Shot them with many different bullets. Most are not shot at any great distance. It would be a much smaller list to mention poor .308 hog bullets. I suggest cheap soft points. Federal Blue box 150's if you shoot factory loads and the 150 gr. Speer Hotcor pushed to 2600 fps if you reload.

If a 165gr cast in 40sw will do the job, most anything will. No pics but 20 yd running shot and he piled up 100 yds away.

Not quite, the Interlock bullet was introduced in 1977, Hornady started the bullet business in 1949. Haven't looked at their reloading manuals in several years but at one time it included information, Joyce Hornady had a goal early of making bullets for accuracy and one hole groups. A bit of history https://www.hornady.com/corporate/company-history/

Ive found that any 308 will drop pretty much any hog of any size without a problem..

that said, I use Barnes 168gr TTSX exclusively in all of my 308's these days.. Ive just gotten the overall best results on everything from whitetail to hogs to african plains game, etc with that bullet...

The SMKs come apart pretty quick in a hog. Place it carefully, or get ready to track.

The ELD-X does great at distance.

The Barnes TSX are absolutely nasty. Inside of 400, I’ve never had a hog move.

I havent met a 308 bullet that wont drop a hog definitively yet... everything Ive ever launched at a pig through one of my 308's did the job and did it exceptionally well..

all of that said, I pretty much only shoot barnes 168gr TTSX through any of my 308's anymore.. its an expensive bullet... but Ive got a pet load that shoots tight groups in all of my bolt actions and semi auto 308's.. and I use that same load for pretty much 90% of my "big game" hunting.. whether we're talking whitetail, pigs, South African plains game, european deer, etc.. I just thought it best to find 1 load that works well across the spectrum rather than have different loads for different quarry... If whatever Im chasing needs more of a hammer than the 168gr 308 @ 2750fps can provide, I'll pull a larger rifle out of the safe.. if the 308 is too much, I'll pull a smaller rifle out of the safe.. If Im taking a 308 with me, Im taking 168gr barnex ttsx getting pushed at 2750 fps..
