High School baseball playoffs start next week. Last year Chad started a great thread on high school baseball but we didnt do it this year so heres our chance to talk about it.
My Grandson is a Junior at Whitehouse(5A) and we play Huntsville next week in first round. We have clinched first in District with our last game tomorrow. We are ranked top 10 in two polls and top 20 in another. I dont put much into those polls. We went pretty deep last year and Im not sure we can do it again.
Grandson in a Junior catcher and we have a Senior catcher thats gonna play college ball thats good. They have been splitting time while playing outfield and DH as well. Both bats in the lineup all the time. Grandson is hitting 373 on 22 of 59 and Im very proud of that. Dont know his on base percentage but its very high. I think hes top 3 or 4 on team in average and may be #1, but he doesnt have as much power as the top guys. He puts the ball in play at a very high rate. Hes only struck out 6 times all year. Its subconscious, but his putting it in play and not striking out is hurting his power. But, Ill take it.

Awesome Free, Flower Mound High is defending 6A state Champs and 30-3 on season, playing last district game tonight versus Hebron to go 14-0 in district, are ranked #1 in state and # 3 in nation. They are deep with 7-8 D1 signees, multiple to A&M, one to TCU and another to Arkansas. Several DII thru JUCO signees too. Haven't caught a game but plan to see a few playoff games. Good luck.

We won yesterday in our final district game. Bring on Huntsville in the first round.
Grandsons been hitting 5th or 6th. Three hole hitter was hurt so he batted third. An uneventful game at the plate-walk, hbp, sac bunt and pop up.
He also hit into a potential double play with bases loaded and one out that he would of beat out while a run scored and the inning still alive with bases loaded and clean up next up. BUT our guy called for interference going into 2B so inning over.

We start on Thursday. Had a 9 game winning streak, but finished losing 3 straight with the bats going silent.

Pitching in playoffs generally wins games and FMHS has 3-5 guys that can toss it 90+ including their #1-3 starters, so why they are real dangerous in 3 game series, lots of D1 arms. Prosper whom is ranked #3 in state lurks in their bracket 2-3 rounds deep. Don't know a lot about Grapevine besides them being #1 in 5A but hard to rule out their district mates, Argyle too...

Dominant pitching wins at any level. Quite a collection of talent there at Flower Mound obviously. Sounds like they'll be hard to handle in the playoffs.

Moved our game up to tonight cause of expected weather. Our baseball community is in a frenzy, so expected to be packed and crazy.

We won the first game last night 9-0. Grandson went 1 for 3 with a 2 rbi single and a sac bunt.
Our ace pitcher is very good. Pitched a shutout with no hits, one walk and 9 Ks. His previous game was a shutout, 1 hit, no walks and 11 Ks.
Loudest baseball crowd Ive ever heard. Couldnt talk to the person beside me and thats the whole time and not just the big moments.

Ummm, yes a no hitter. Is there a difference in giving up "no hits" and a "no hitter?"

Ummm, most people describe it as a no-hitter, not a shutout with no hits. And for a pitcher to actually record a no-hitter, he needs to pitch the full game. Dudolski pitched a great game, but did not go the distance.

I noticed Free's slightly awkward description but knew what was meant. Knowing this is Free's grandson and not knowing Free's baseball background, all good...

Whitehouse swept the 3 game series against Huntsville last night in Huntsville with a 1-0 score. We left a ton of guys on base but couldnt get em in. Huntsville gave a valiant effort and I felt for them. They have a brand new feild/complex and its really nice. Of course, almost everywhere we play is like that. A tremendous amount of money is put into HS athletic facilities. Its extremely rare that we play on a natural grass field.
We play Forney on Thursday at 7 at home then Friday at their place. Game 3 in Athens if needed.
My old home town Georgetown Eagles are rolling as usual.
I cant find an update on Lufkin and Mt Pleasant and Im curious.
