I just read that 97.1 The Freak in Dallas is changing formats and the station is effectively done as of today. Mike Rhyner brought a bunch of ex-Ticket guys over to the station, but every time I tried to listen to it, it was absolutely terrible. I'm sure others like me tried to give it a chance, but they never gained any traction in the ratings.

I listened once for 10 minutes, but then again, I don't listen to sport talk at all anymore.

Same hear. Tried to listen a couple of times but way to wheels off to keep my attention. The talent Mike siphoned off is going to find it hard to land back in the DFW sports talk market.

I thought the Eagle has that slot.

They renamed it "The Freak" in October 2022 when they changed formats to " lifestyle talk". It was very little sports and a lot of sophomoric humor and obscure music talk that really can't resonate well in the target demographic of men aged 25–54.

I tried and still listen occasionally. The “we talk about what we want” didn’t seem marketable to me. I think a sports based station, would be better. They were obviously trying to compete with the Ticket.

I never listen to ticket. May try the fan. Never listen to them either.

Anyway, yeah, I didn't know that had changed over. I can't get that station from where I live. I remember the old Eagle way back when. That's when the ZOO was around.

I pretty much stopped listening after they had on some yahoo activist who said he was at the Allen Mall mass shooting.
He’s a know agitator. Was later proven he wasn’t even there.

I tried it as well. It was terrible

I have been a Ticket listener since 1998. I didn't know The Freak existed until a couple months ago and I found out here. I looked it up and saw what "talent" they got from the ticket and knew it was probably bad. I tried to listed once but it was so terrible I could not even give it a go. Ben and Skin are a disaster and The Ticket got rid of the dead weight by not renewing Nasal Dan and Joe Biden Jake. The icing was when Norm quit. The Ticket is as strong or stronger than it's been in a decade. The Freak is no more.

The winner is clear. Rhyner couldn't construct a beast powerful enough to destroy then one he'd already birthed.
