Someone made that statement in the thread on pecans. I hunt in East Texas (San Jacinto County), and I'm not seeing many acorns on the white oaks -- none, in fact.

was told this afternoon from someone in Tyler Co that they were going to be covered in them...but that is down in the Neches River bottom and basically a place that holds a ton of water.

Just got back from our place in Walker County. Saw very few on the trees. Didn't have many last year either.

Good crop & falling pretty good in Hamilton Co.
This rain will really get 'em on the ground.

Haven't been to the lease (Nolan county) in a while. But my four oak trees in Denton county have very few acorns this year.

Just checked my trees yesterday and they are loaded, and the acorns are about the size of a pea right now.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I haven't checked in Panola Co but here at my house in Robertson Co, I didn't think we had any due to the drought here. But after a short walk, I'm seeing quite a few already on the ground. Looking up in the trees, some are loaded where some are about the size of a pea.

Sqiggy, you get any of that natural gas money going around in Robertson county. Things have really changed over there in the last 2 years. Some people have hit the lottery on it.

If any of yall had a great year for Acorns last year then you shouldnt expect much this year!

All types of Oaks go though masting cycles and you will only get a great crop every 2-5 years! From my expereince most Oaks produce extremly well every third year! All the other years the produce is very minimum!

Even if you have extreme rain fall two years in a row you still wont get a bumper crop two years in a row! Thats the rule anyway, and I am sure someone will prove me wrong!

I know there's data to prove that, JCB - but we've had a great crop of acrons the last three years...

Last years wasn't as great as this year, but the trees were loaded.

NOPE!!! The mineral rights had already been sold when we bought this place in 99.

I haven't seen an acorn on our place in Eastland County. Last year they were so bad, the deer quit moving and they could care less about corn/food plots.

i would think east Texas crops would be fine, the central texas drought might hurt its crop...

East Texas had a very dry June, which is normally a wet month.

disclaimer on my previous post about Tyler Co: property is 1/2 naturally regenerated forest and 1/2 experimental.... different varieties of oaks are planted much like pine plantations in 100acre plots. After thinking about it, makes it very easy to claim to be having a "good year"
