Handloading for a 1970s Remington BDL 264 WM w/ 24" SS barrel.
My current load is 140gr Berger Elite Hunters over 55.5gr of IMR4350 in Remington Brass w/ Fed215 Primers at a COAL of 3.365". No chrono but calculated to 2900fps. Great accuracy, and is more than satisfactory for 200yds and in.
I am trying to conserve barrel life as this is a priceless rifle to me, but I do want to handload some rounds that are more near the top end of the 264's capablilites.
I've got 50 rounds of ADG 7 mag brass that I will be necking down with my 264 dies, and I will stick with the 140gr Elite Hunters.
What powder would y'all recommend? I have looked at Hodgden US 869, as that looks to be one of the fastest. Have also considered getting Winchester primers.
Any input is appreciated.

I would definitely look at something slower like H 4831 SC.

I would definitely look at something slower like H 4831 SC. Go even slower. H-1000 and the brass full of it.

If top speed is the goal, something like R33 would get the most velocity. If you want temp stable, something in the Retumbo or H1000 would do well. Something that is a double base powder will yield the highest speeds over single base powders. I am trying to conserve barrel life as this is a priceless rifle to me, but I do want to handload some rounds that are more near the top end of the 264's capablilites.
^^ This is exact opposites of each other. You can not achieve the top end velocities without sacrificing barrel life. But, this is a hunting rifle, not a target rifle. If you don't plan to shoot over a thousand rounds down this rifle, then don't worry about barrel life. Just load what you want and shoot it. Too many people worry about barrel life in a rifle when they may only shoot 20-50 rounds a year down it, if that. Don't worry about it, just load what you want and shoot it. You won't get even close to a barrels life span.

^^Yup
My 7 Rem Mag was born in 2012. I only use it for 7 Rem Mag jobs. 16 pounds of H-Retumbo was purchased for it. That 16 pounds will make about 1000 rounds, and then I also need a new barrel. It's fired about 450 rounds so far.
In the mean time, a few other barrels have been shot out, on different rifles.

I would look at H1000 as mentioned and add another advantage it has. It’s one of the cooler burning powders so will help a little on barrel life…another is N165 which is even cooler on the heat scale IIRC.

I was more trying to say, in regards to conserving the barrel, that I was hoping to just get a powder recommended and begin loading with that, versus going through load development with 3-4 different powders to really dial it in, especially given I already have a very accurate load. I had not thought of faster rounds burning the barrel more, but as this is a hunting rifle I will load them hot and not worry about it.

Load workup and in the future keep shot strings short and let cool between, high heat has been the down fall of quite a few rifles for premature burn out. Plus many rifles will alk some as the barrel heats so that is not great for finding the accuracy load.

I had one in a model 70 and I loaded it hot as can be. It wasn’t exactly a joy to shoot so I sighted it in and every shot after that was very dead big game. I couldn’t imagine shooting one out unless I had wanted to for some reason. It was a mule deer machine.

I'm loading 47.0 IMR4064, CCI Large Rifle primers, 140 grain Nosler Partition for 2720 fps., mixed brass. 2 Winchester Pre 64 264 Win Mag. Both guns love the load. Whitetail and Audad sheep taken from 100 to over 300 yards with no issues.

What would a good, stout load in a .264 do?
