Great story, nice knifes and awesome riffle. I believe as you alluded to the 405 was maybe Teddy's favorite safari caliber.

As a collector/user, I will not claim that the 405 Winchester is my favorite, but somehow, four different rifles chambered for that cartridge have followed me home in the last few years, three of which I took to the range recently in order to decide which rifle would be used to slay that beast. Bursgmuller & Sohn Double Rifle, 405 Winchester Ruger #1 Tropical, 405 Winchester Dakota Model 10, 405 Winchester and one that as of this writing that remains unfired. Winchester 1895, 405 Winchester ya! GWB

Very fine rifles sir, think you made the perfect choice with the double. I was curious and checked the web. there seems to be a fair amount of 405 Winchester ammunition around still. Believe Starline also makes brass for it.

Kicks like a horny mule though when firing Buffalo Bore rounds. Excellent for short range bear hunting.
