Pretty cool. I assume it just floats and they climb on and then fall into the cage?

Yes. They sun on top and when they slide back in, if they choose the wrong side, they end up in the trap.

Nice! They do work. Version 3.0 here. In the last couple years it's gone from 100+ turtles screwing up my duck pond to only a few.

Yes haha, I had some laying around and thought... if I was a turtle I'd like something other than sheet metal to lay on. The version 3.0 improvement is that I added some reinforcement (old curtain rails) under the sheet metal bridge. The wind tore it up last year, lesson learned.

I do too but they are difficult to process. A shop hammer is the best way I have found though.

This boy crawled out of my dry creek in the back. I put him back and he crawled back up within 20 minutes. I opened the gate while mowing the front and he must have been heading for the canals across the street.

I suspect it might be a she looking for a place to nest?

My grandfather used to live on Toledo Bend and some summers we'd inevitably find a dead turtle or two stuck in one of his wire fences, fully decomposed with the skull and a few eggs just laying there inside the shell.

Nifty trap sir up

When we had 3 decent size ponds, I'd use the bucket on the 150hp Case and take them out with a 22. Actually had decent luck using the shells for dirt hole sets for sound dogs.

They tend to over populate and eat up everything right?

In my case they did. I didn't know a few years ago when they boomed that red ears primary food source is aquatic vegetation. Really hosed up my duck hunting. I've declared war.

Also got an ol skool pump 22 and a 1k bucket of LR. They figure out they're being hunted pretty quick.

I helped one on the road the other day above one of my stock ponds. He took the 275/65/18 like a champ.

Had a couple from Dunns Fish farm and have caught hundreds from our ponds. I would regularly catch 40-50 at a time. Although, the trap was only checked about every 2-3 weeks. It cleaned out the ponds in short order. The problem though was disposing of all the turtles, 22 round to the head one at a time.
They had a really good design. The platform they climbed onto would dump them in the trap, once they got far enough up on it.

Very interesting, I didn't know that. I too shall declare war this year. Guess that could be the reason the pond had zero vegetation in it this season.
