What is your opinion? Ok or dangerous - you can find support for both sides. Daughter is moving , new place is 11 acres with a lot of pine and a fireplace in the house

Are you concerned about a chimney tar/sap buildup and fire? Or are you worried about the pine catching fire from the fireplace? Not sure exactly what the concern is. I think both issues are extremely low risk. If this is an older house and older fireplace, might just have the chimney swept out or burned out real good before or just after moving in. I have been burning pinyon pine in my outdoor fireplace for years and have had no problems

Thanks , the concern is burning sappy pine and creating a buildup in the chimney that could catch fire

We burn pine almost exclusively in our wood stove. Keep her chimney clean and no issues. Spouse probably cleans our chimney about every other month or so, dampered down fires will really soot up the flue.

Run a flashlight up the fireplace is the ceresote is shiny/ sticky it is a fire hazard. You can burn pine, but it will make for more cleaning and maintenance. l would have her educate herself on ceresote and keep an eye on it. Relying on chimney sweep to diagnose leaves room for fraud. Last year I took videos up my chimney and sent to companies and two lied and said I had ceresote stage 2 and quited $1,500. I had stage one which is where the residue is dry and flakey!!!!! My sis got taken to the cleaners in NC for $2,500 and there is mo way a second home that burns wood in the fireplace 3 days a year that is in danger.

Our chimney sweep back in Oregon told us that if we were burning a lot of pine and fir, to burn an occasional fire of incense cedar to cook out the creosote. Guessing that is a scarce article in Texas.

I used to think that you should only burn hardwoods in fireplaces, because that's what I was told. After a couple of NM VRBO's, and them only having pine in the woodpile, I asked around and did research. Evidently, it is fine to burn pine. I still burn exclusively hardwoods though. I have an unlimited supply. I could burn post oak 24/7/365 and still would not have to cut down a live tree for years.

burned pine in my woodstoves in colorado for20 yrs. just have to clean it well. here, I would mix some juniper from time to time to make a hot fire but would use one of the creosote logs just before. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Pine-Mo...9440?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US
