I have several come alongs. Anyone have the problem of the metal cable getting stiff? Hard to unwind? Do yuo replace the metal cable?

Have I simply bought inferior come alongs?

Anyone ever use a "Block chain hoist"?

How do you load a disabled tractor? A come along?

Thanks!

God Bless,

Dale

Never had issues with a come along. Have blocked tired on trailer and used a strap and truck to pull a tractor up on a trailer.

Never used a "cabled" version. Mine is a 3 ton chain style and is designed to be used either horizontally or vertically. Many of the chain style ones are only for vertical applications. I just keep it well oiled and it has always worked fine. As for loading the tractor yes a come along would work. Other methods i have used include using another tractor with a loader bucket to push the disabled tractor up the ramps while someone on the broken tractor steers. Only works if there is somewhere on the back of the disabled tractor to push safely. Have also used a block and tackle attached to the front of the trailer. Cable hooked to disabled tractor at ramps and good tractor behind that. Drive good tractor slowly away from trailer and up she goes. Hell depending on the ratios with the right block and tackle you probs pull it up by hand. If the tractor you are loading is not too big i have even loaded 30Hp and smaller utility tractors with the forks on a big loader. Pretty sure a big enough high hoe would work pretty slick too.

Never violate a woman, nor harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak against the evil strong. And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil.

^^^^^^

Me either, just don't buy a cheap/Chinese one.

Get a GOOD one and it will work properly and last for many years.

Been using Come-A-Longs almost on a weekly basis for near 30 years. Never had a cable be too stiff. I've replaced a worn out cable before.

I've got two chain hoists handing in my shop. The great thing about them is the length they will pull over a Come-A-Long.
