Ok, I just got my tax stuff back from my CPA and im a little pissed...she got me $800 back but then charged me $1080. Last year got back bout $1100 but charged me 900 (200 of that was for filing my daughter separate) So I did my daughters this year on turbotax for free, so thought I'd get off cheaper...boy was I wrong!! I don't think we have that hard of a tax situation but i think its too hard for ME to do on TurboTax, which is all i used before my knifemaking hobby became a "business" 2 years ago...We just have our teacher salaries and my knife business w 2 daughters. Looks like I'm looking for a new CPA next year! What do yalls charge cause I feel like I'm getting bent over the barrell?

My hourly rate is my legal rate of $360. Most typical returns that I prepare cost between $300-$600, but some complex returns do cost more.

That sounds pretty high. I walked my daughter through her taxes today. Many companies offer it free to students.

Those turbo tax “experts” you talk to when you have questions, sure missed the boat. Zeek quickly diagnosed my problem and I made my wife cough up the 1098T she forgot to give me.

That is about double what I pay. I use Frank Thornton in Decatur. I have also heard great things about Kevin Baber in Wichita Falls.

Sounds pretty steep for a mom and pop return with a side business. You looking for someone in the Wichita Falls area since you're Henrietta based?

If you have a small side business or a small farm along with a w2 income.

Don't carry them a bunch of receipts and have them do your bookkeeping. Total all of your expenses yourself, total all of your income yourself, have everything in the correct categories on a spreadsheet.

If you do this, someone will do your taxes for a couple hundred bucks or less. That's my experience anyway. After paying someone for many years I lost my guy, but by that time I felt comfortable enough to start filing it myself.

When I had my business, I totaled income and expenses and gave the CPA the numbers. He put it together for me.

I handed them a thumb drive with an excel spreadsheet with all my sales and expenditures all totaled up...now they weren't categorized (I'm still trying to figure this out). I have a dedicated credit card for my business and everything I buy for the business is put on that card and paid off at the end of every month.

Would like to stay fairly local...there's a guy in Nocona that has been doing my parents taxes forever that I need to call and see what he thinks.
