I need to get this tower down and hauled off. It's made from 4" schedule 80 and about 50ft tall. All posts are concreted in the ground. The easy part is cutting the pipe, the concern is getting it on the ground gracefully. I've got a 50 horse tractor, mini-ex and skid steer.

From an equipment perspective it doesn't sound like you have a big enough machine to deal with that much weight and size. At least not gracefully (or safely). Know anybody with a heavy crane truck or a 50K Lb excavator?

Could just put a nice box blind on top and hunt out of it. Just my 2cents Will be interesting to see what a pro advises.

Goodness that would be some tower blind right there. I bet you could get someone to pay You to take that off if you no longer wanted it.

I don’t see gracefully happening.

You're going to have to cut it up to get rid of it most likely so I'd just start cutting from the top and work my way down.

Make a couple deer stand bases. It's on land my wife has for sale; buyer wants it gone and seller doesn't wanna jack with it.

A good redneck would....

Tie a rope near the top of the tower then to a D ring attached to a sturdy tree trunk.
Run the rope 3 or 4 turns through the D ring and then to your tractor.
Take up most of the slack but not all.
Run another long rope from the top to your skid steer and pull the rope taunt in the direction you want the tower to descend.
Cut the two downhill post 2/3rds of the way through to act as a hinge.
Cut the other two uphill posts all the way through.
Slowly lower the tower down with your tractor.

Rent a 10k or 12k telehandler for a day. Rig up your straps and have a trusted operator in the machine while you make the cuts. Cut in sections and carefully remove with the telehandler.

Is that an old Forest service fire tower?
It’s going to be a tricky job just about any way you do it.

Kinda what I would do. Whats the big problem with just pulling it down?

You must own some big bad ropes. I'm thinking it would take 1/2 inch winch cable at a bare minimum.

Agreed.

1/2" Kern Mantle life safety rope is rated for 7500 pounds. And that ain't enough for this tower.

By my calculations there’s 3000 pounds in just the 4” uprights.

Dangerous, but could you not make some hinge cuts like your felling a tree and have it tied off to pull it down in the other direction?
