Get a Toro Personal Pace, it moves forward just as fast or as slow as you walk.

I bought a new Snapper Hi Vac mower back in the early 90`s for about 500 bucks. Looking back, that was a bunch of money for a mower but it was a really good one. It would have sucked a big mac thru a screen door. Currently have a Honda HRX and love it but going to have to make it last a long time since they quit making them.

I bought a cheap Huskee push mower with a Kohler motor from TSC a few years ago and it's been unstoppable.

For lawn maintenance I have made the switch to all battery. I'm done cranking on machines and hurting my arm. I have thrown more weed eaters across the yard in the hot sun than I can count. The battery weed eater was life changing for me.

Off topic but who remembers the front/side exit two stroke Lawn Boys from the '60's and '70's?

I keep my more expensive, self-propelled mower stored most of the time and use a much cheaper model because it's so lightweight. I can move faster and easier with it. It also gives me a better physical workout.

My dad gave me his when we bought our house. A large rock or stump killed it, bent the shaft. Used to know a guy (now dead) that fixed small engines and he could straighten bent crankshafts. I hit a ground rod with mine about 20 years ago and took it to him. He fixed it with about $12 in parts and $50 in labor.
Pass the gravy.

HONDA IS STILL MAKING NEW MOWERS THIS YEAR. Get one while you can. I'm on my second HRX217. Other than being overall large/long (only a problem if you have tight areas/lots of trees), they're great. Am looking to add another one this year while I can. Specifically this model. https://www.northerntool.com/produc...engine-21in-deck-model-hrx217k6hya-73402

I remember seeing this mower when I was just a pup. I can`t imagine it mowing worth a crap though. I always thought it had 3 wheels since I never seen one close up until I watched this video.

The Murray isn’t fancy, and it’ll eventually be ugly, but ours never died. Prior to the electric Ryobi she got for the garden, she had a Murray. It used oil and needed a spark plug cleaning regularly, and she had problems starting it sometimes, but it never stumbled when mowing. It would mow tall grass and shrubbery and mow stuff the electric Ryobi can’t handle at all. I miss the Murray sometimes and I never use the Ryobi.
In Houston I had a self propelled Honda rear bagger. Expensive and reliable. Not much use for a rear bagger here in the country.

Honda makes the best one. My push mower is a Troy Bilt. It was $300. For my purposes, it works great.
I have a Troy Bilt as well. It is guaranteed to start on the first or second pull. Now into the third year and it has only taken more than one pull on a handful of occasions-usually in cold weather. It was a little over $300 at Home Depot.

Off topic but who remembers the front/side exit two stroke Lawn Boys from the '60's and '70's? I do. And the Jacobsen mower my dad had was a 2 stroke with 4 blades on a rotating disc. They touted the 4 blades as being a superior cut to regular mowers.

The key to any gasoline powered mower/chainsaw/etc. is ethanol free gas.

My wife has a Ryobi battery mower. It’s pretty anemic, but she doesn’t have much to mow (around the garden). It won’t handle thick grass.
For a gas mower, I’d go with Honda if they are available. I have a Ryobi 40 volt mower and it’s great for small lawns because it’s so lightweight but it will not suck up thatch and stuff at all. That’s why I keep the old gas mower…for the first couple of cuts in the spring. All my other electric toys work fantastic.
