The new tacos struggle enough in mountain passes, I can't imagine the 25 4runner with a 2.4l 4cyl is going to do any better. My ex had a 2014 4runner and it was a dog in the passes. Maybe the new 8spd trans will do better. I won't be the guinea pig. You have the standard engine, or the I force max? When my ex and I had the 2014 4runner, it had the 4.0l v6 with a 5spd auto and didn't handle the passes well. I had a 2018 taco as a loaner for a few months. It had the 3.5l v6 with a 6spd auto and it was no better. My little 99 taco with the 3.4l v6 and 5spd manual is a beast though. Oldie but a goodie.

We have the 2.4 turbo in a 24 RX and it's honestly not bad (except for the premium fuel requirement). Not sure I'd be crazy about having it in a heavier body-on-frame vehicle like a 4Runner, though. Honestly, I miss my 04 4Runner with the V8. Should have never gotten rid of it.

One of the main reasons I'm daily driving a GX (got the 4.7) over the 4Runner TRDPro is they and the Taco have been anemic for a LONG time. I hope the turbo will help them...but not optimistic.

I gave my 2010 4 runner to my Granddaughter with about 210,000 miles. Still running great

Agree completely. My 99 with the 3.4 v6 and 5spd manual handled mountain passes better than the 14 4runner and 18 taco. It also bummed me out that toyota ditched the tried and true bulletproof 5.7 in the tundra for a turbo 3.4l v6. I've seen several reports of crank bearing issues in those engines. Not sure how big of an issue it is but I also read that toyota isn't doing the best job handling it and quite a few guys are pretty upset, understandably so.

I’ve had five 4Runners, including this 2016 with 106,000 miles on it. All the way back to my 1985 4Runner they have been practically bulletproof, including my 1992 4Runner that survived my daughter’s college years!

Looks ok but I personally wouldn't drive one. Wife is thinking of selling her Jeep and getting a Bronco. I won't drive it either.

Drove the new twin turbo V-6 in a crew cab and was not impressed. Would be fine for Joe Buyer who drives to and from work everyday and occasionally hauls some mulch or a piece of plywood, but it does not compete with the Ford or GM half tons.

Was that the Tundra or Tacoma V-6, I know there is a 100 HP difference between the two. I really liked the 5.7L Tundra old engine

That is rough to hear. I think that is the same engine they are putting in the GX 550. Guess I will see how the GX does when I drive one.

I just can’t get excited about new vehicles. I read the 2025 ram 1500’s will no longer have oil dipsticks.

The new Toyota has a good design and the interior is adequate. As usual, they are more spartan on the accoutrements than the Big 3 are on any trim level. But, they are lacking on the powerplant options. And I don't know how much longer we will be able to buy a ICE ( internal combustion engine ). I think within the next 5 years everything is going to be a hybrid design save for diesel engines in larger trucks.

Common in fact. GM stopped putting transmission dipsticks in more than a decade ago on some stuff. Engine? That's weird.

And the last one was made in 96’. Would be interesting to see what close to 30 years of technology improvement could do with it

Not a bad looking SUV, but I cant see that much $, but that is the case with most new vehicles. A lot of cash for a depreciating expense.

Can't remember exactly which one. They modified the Ford 300 three different times. Bone stock it was 80-something horse power. Before they turbo charged it, it was well over 300 horse power. After they turbo charged it, it was over 400 horse power. They never got a 351 Cleveland V-8 to make over 400 horse power.

I was a 4Runner fan for many years. Until the last time I went to buy one. 3 different dealerships acted like they were doing me a favor even showing me one. List price plus. I bought a Nissan that seems to be a good car.
My 2010 Tundra has 230,000 miles and has no problems. My daily driver. I hate the thought of having to buy another vehicle.

I had to fight with the one I ended up buying it from, because they kept wanting to run my credit.......I also got them to drop all the stupid add-ons.. Alamo toyota was the only cool dealership I've dealt with
