Going shopping for a new one tomorrow and want to know y'alls opinions on what brands to look at. We had to move into an apartment from Arkansas so I sold all of my lawn equipment. In hindsight I should have seen if my parents would have held on to it... Anyways now that we bought a house I'm needing to get all new stuff. Budget is probably $300-400 and I want a gas mower so what would y'all recommend?

Toro or Husqvarna... Honda if you can find it. Honda is no longer making residential pushers.

most all are made by mtd, but if you can afford it, a honda makes a dandy mower.

Does anyone have the Yardmax YG1650? I've been reading reviews that they're the best budget friendly lawn mower currently. Our yard is small, I'd expect mowing to take less than 20 minutes

I would even think about going gas for a small yard/20-minute cut. Do yourself a favor and go battery powered. I've had this one for five years. No hassle, does a great and still going strong. (But not self-propelled.) https://www.amazon.com/Greenworks-Blade-Mower-4-0Ah-Battery/dp/B00GX9WNP2/ref=sr_1_4?But I'm getting old and decided to replace it with the self-propelled model below. I've had it for a few months now and really like it. https://www.amazon.com/Greenworks-B...8df540e&pd_rd_i=B08NX23ZMH&psc=1

If still available, I'd go Husqvarna with a Honda engine. I still have the one I bought in 04 and still runs like a champ (I did replace the carb a few years ago). I have even had it stored for a few years at a time and it started on the first pull. Great piece of kit.

That really isn't a bad idea going electric. I've just always been a gas guy but I understand the perspective with it being a small front/back yard

My wife has a Ryobi battery mower. It’s pretty anemic, but she doesn’t have much to mow (around the garden). It won’t handle thick grass.
For a gas mower, I’d go with Honda if they are available.

Thanks 603 for the input I was looking into those as well. Will probably go with a Ryobi weedeater but will shop around for a mower tomorrow.

I have been real happy with a self propelled Ego Power electric for at least a couple years. It was one of the better ego ones from lowes, so would cost a little over your budget. It can do everything my prior gas husky could do easier. The handle easily folds down over the top for storage and it is not near as heavy as a gas mower. Now I am only mowing a residential yard and mow it often so it never gets tall. If I had vacant lots with tall grass and weeds to mow, I would want a gas husky, honda, or snapper. But for my yard I'm happy enough with it, that I will never going back to anything with gas for lawn maintenance. When I went back and looked over the reviews, many of the negative ones are people complaining about things that I now know are from them obviously not knowing how to operate it or they did not read the instructions. Well worth the convenience, no gas cans, no oil, no spark plugs, no rebuilding carbs, and I am sure the technology will have improved even more when I have to replace it.

OP. have a Honda mower I’d sell. It’s been sitting for awhile and will price accordingly. It will most likely need carb and fuel line work. I believe I paid $550 for it at HD. Stored in my garage in a ceiling rack unit, and should clean up really nice.
PM me if you want to discuss. Like an unused gun it needs a new home.

Bought a 22 inch Murray with a Briggs 12 years ago when I got married a few blades and a pull cord later it will cut as long as I push/keep gas it. You don’t have to get a $500 mower.

https://www.harborfreight.com/80v-b...-only-56992.html?_br_psugg_q=atlas+mowerMy mom mows the yard to get her exercise since she retired. I bought her a riding mower, but she prefers to push mow...it's an acre lot. That's the thing she has. Now, she does have at least 2, but I think 3 batteries for it so there's less down time, but she likes it. This will be the 3rd year of using it and she mows twice a week (again, for exercise and she gets bored). She did have to replace the first one using the extended warranty, but no issues. This one has gone 1.5 years so far. She used it today, as a matter of fact. If you have a small yard like you're talking about, I'd at least consider it.

I’ve had a Honda for years. I have no idea how it is still working. I had a n old Craftsman that I intentionally ran without oil for a couple of years to kill it so I could justify buying a new one. Dang thing got two summers of hard work and wouldn’t die. I filled it back up with oil and ran it for a decade until I sold my house.

I have an all wheel drive Husq (Briggs powered) that's going on 4 years old. No complaints. I bought it to replace my 2003 Craftsman (Briggs powered) I started having to repair each season. Well, I am still using both even though the older one burns and leaks oil and is hard to start hot...likely has 1200 hours on it. It won't die.
Research the models and brands MTD makes and put them on the DO NOT GET list. My Craftsman was NOT made by MTD. I chose the Husg because my friend owns a chain of feed stores through Cooke and Denton Co. and because of the AWD (that is not worth the extra $40-60) and it has ambidextrous controls for the self-propel system.
All my two-stroke stuff is Echo.
Pass the gravy.

Honda makes the best one. My push mower is a Troy Bilt. It was $300. For my purposes, it works great.

Haven’t pushed a mower in 30+years. Have a two acre yard, use liquid weed eater ( roundup ), and Kabota ZTR.
