Have found 5 in my yard. Talked to GW and he told me there is a sickness that only affects Doves and Pigeons that they have. Not bird flu. He said there are reports from Coleman to Haskell, and not all will be affected.

I think the collared dove will take over. Survival of the fittest.

Lots of doves here. Even if we lost 20% we'd still have a bunch.

At the very end of deer season I found a dead dove laying right next to one of my trail cameras. No sign of trauma, just laying there dead. That was in extreme SW Coleman county. Not what I wanted to hear. We had one of our better dove crops last year.

I hope it doesn't get a lot worse. Not trying to be too selfish, but it was shaping up to be a banner year. Seeing them everywhere in good numbers.

My dog bought me a dead baby dove just now, old enough to have feathers. Well she refused to bring all the way back to me because she wanted to play with it. But of course we have plenty to go around still alive.

I haven't seen recent studies but 20 years ago a biologist for Arizona Game & Fish told us that 40-50% of the dove population die every year...whether they are hunted or not...they really are a fragile species...

Same. When I first went through hunter's ed in Virginia about 25 years ago, VGIF were actually saying the annual mortality rate was higher than that. This was the agency's response to the PETA types trying to protect the "pretty songbirds." 60-70% are gonna die any way... may as well hunt them.

Yeah, it’s less about hunting, and more about habitat/conservation.

The yearly mortality rate in doves and quail has always been there; this is something maybe a little different. This is Dove Zombie Disease!

The resident dove population around southeast Texas finally seems to be making a decent comeback after Harvey and Imelda wiped many of them out. Hopefully this doesn’t take another toll on them.

Seems the dieing doves has slowed or stopped. Haven't found a dead dove in the past 9 or 10 days. Hopefully it's ran it's course. Still lots of dove around.
