I see these plastic owls in yards and on rooflines around the neighborhood, and am not convinced they are there for aesthetics, but for some potential ability to turn doves and other obnoxious birds to thoughts of religion. Do they work at all? I'd like to keep doves from nesting in the pecan over the patio and pooping on my Traeger, and would rather not kill them with the precision air rifle.

You might be better off with like hawk decoy if there is such a thing.

Game Wardens might be interested in shooting doves with a pellet gun.

To be determined

Wife has one sitting on the pool waterfall, plenty of birds, squirrels, possums, etc. still roaming the area. I see them a lot in covered boat docks...again, the boats are usually covered in bird poo.

Google search "red tail hawk mobile for bird control".

They kind of work if you move them around, if not they get used to them. I'd try the hawk decoy.

For deterring barn swallows I've had some success with an old CD on a cable (like a picture hanger wire) flashing in the light and wind.

They get accustomed to them quickly. I use them for crow hunting and they work great but if I left them out all the time they wouldn’t work at all.

They worked great... until the animals realized they weren't real.

I used one when the swallows would come into town for nesting. They work as long as you move the owl around about once a week or two. If you don't move it, it stops working

I've seen pigeons sitting on an owl decoys head at Kroger making baby pigeons not too long ago.
I vote no, they are not a deterrent.

We've got 3 at our house.

My dad must have gotten them for his country house years ago.

Do they work?
Yes, at Halloween, they are perfect!!!

...!

I would not waste my money on the owl , put cd's on a string and hang up, birds don't like alot of movement

You have to move the decoy around a lot. If not it just becomes another rest for the birds.

I have one on my dock. Suspended it from a small chain in the rafters to swing in the breeze. Its just now swallow season so we shall see.

The decoys don’t work unless you move them on a daily basis, at least that’s been my observation with them.
