I put in a nice fire pit area right outside my shop & I have a great spot on the outside of the shop wall right next to it where I'd like to project NFL and MLB games this year. (Ideally I'd like to project the games on the wall & play audio through a big bluetooth outdoor speaker.)

Anyone have any experience with projectors and being able to project TV with them? Recommendations on projectors? Tips on how to get the best experience?

Thanks for any guidance!

J.R.

Ours is bad in daylight hours but great for movies on the big screen after dark. Not the 4K HD quality we are used to now days either but plenty watchable. Ours is a relatively cheap projector so guessing it is a get what you pay for kind of deal. I run sound through a sound bar which works just fine.

I've been on a projector for daily use 2-6 hours daily for last 5 years or so. Just recently replaced my first projector I started with. If you are viewing outside in daylight hours be prepared to spend some $ if you want good picture quality. Both of mine have been inside only , both units were about 600$. I tried some of the cheap Amazon units and couldn't stand em, before I dropped 600 on a good projector. I would say the two nicer ones I have had wouldn't do well outside during the day. I ran an Epson 1060 LCD for several years, recently replaced it with an Optoma dlp projector gear specifically for gaming (my primary use) I have been very happy with it.

Both were as simple as an HDMI input. My sound bar has a passthrough HDMI port so it's hardwired , I'm no help on the Bluetooth option

I won a pop up movie theater kit in a raffle at work. It has a 10 foot roll out screen, projector and an outdoor speaker. I haven't even opened the box. If you're interested shoot me a PM. I think these run about $175 - $200 retail and I'll make you a good deal if you want it.

Projectors do poorly in light. The darker the better. Also, separate from the projector, the better the screen the better the picture. I can't help with the latest projector technology. Mine is a DLP 1080p 60Hz from 2014. Being a short throw the image size is maxed out at a distance of 16' on a 11' 3" screen (to get bigger picture have to move projector further away but ceiling mounting beyond where mine is would be a challenge). Pay attention to lumen (higher = better), contrast (higher = better), and color wheel speed (faster = better), frame interpolation (want it), vertical lens shift (may or may not matter, didn't in my case). WHDMI (Wireless HDMI), at least with mine, is garbage being very prone to interference, so I hard wired. I don't care about audio since my goes through the theater system. I've replaced the bulb twice. Mine are readily available and easy to replace. About $100 each.
