has been declared against the turtles. I’m thinking pull the trap up on the bank, turn it over and have a survivor episode with a 22/45. The slow ones will never make it to the water. The fast ones, maybe. I might create a bunch of super fast turtles through natural selection

It’s got a good bottom and has always been clear like that. I just have to dye it blue though to keep the moss from getting out of hand.

One guy told me never shoot turtles and let them sink in the pond, why is that? They float up in a few days and end up on the bank anyway. The hogs like playing around with them trying to get to the meaty parts.

I have a trap I haven't taken out of the box. Bought it several years ago. The wife gives me grief every time i talk about deploying it. There are as many as 40-50 at one time waiting on the fish feeder to go off. I think the hard freeze thinned them out a little bit.

My record was 31 in a single trap. I take them and dump them in the river a few miles down the road. I want to shoot them all but the wife doesnt want me to…she is ok woth me shooting pigs tho
Reason i was told to get rid of them is they eat fish eggs and disturb the spawning beds.
That cut on the fish is more likely from a bird than a turtle. Unless you have a big arse snapping turtle in there

When I start having a water rodent problem, I will reconsider the water snake control plan.

No problem with turtles. They are the clean up crew for dead fish.

The fast ones, maybe. I might create a bunch of super fast turtles through natural selection We used an old black plastic fish pond, screwed a board across the top and anchored one side down, turtles climbed up the board, then when spooked, hopped off into the plastic tank. Caught alot of those suckered like that.

Red ear sliders WILL eat your fish too, and they are bait thieving artists.
The best way to dispatch turtles is to fully submerge your traps and let them sit long enough to drown them. Less work and saves ammo.
