I’ve known a few that didn’t. I think they usually end up in federal prison.

We have a voluntary compliance tax system in the US but if you don't voluntarily had over your money eventually men with guns show up and take it and take you away either dead or alive. The only way to beat the system is to operate with cash which is why the government wants to do away with it.

I know a guy that has driven himself into a hole because he had a guy tell him that income tax was illegal, and you didn't have to pay it. There are now leans on all his properties.
Whether he could prove it as unconstitutional or not, there are those screaming "it is the law," and right or wrong they will exercise their authority over you.
I would not recommend doing what he did.

Best man at my wedding thought paying taxes was BS and flipped the bird at the IRS. Only cost him a decade of wage garnishment to get back square with them.

In Texas, if you homesteaded, only ones that can put you on the street is the mortgage holder or the IRS.

Actually, no. I’ve seen this from a few sources. The most recent one is a lawyer. He claims to have done it, along with several others, but who knows. It’s hard to believe anyone, these days. Also, there is a process to follow, according to him. You don’t just stop paying taxes.

Heh, I have to tell folks this one from time to time, and it's always the same uphill arguments to get them to believe that the IRS can indeed force the sale of your homestead property if they choose to.

Once they believe me, then it changes the asset protection strategy a bit
