They've lost their minds! Went for my (wife's) annual pallet of garden soil (on sale) and they're now charging a $16 deposit on the damn pallet. So I said "so I have to make another trip here just to drop the pallet back at the door? He then said "you have to go to the Customer Service counter." bang

They pulled this on me years ago when I was buying two pallets of Sackrete. I had pallets on my trailer and they wouldn’t accept them as a return. They ended up stacking the sackrete on my pallets.

pallets are reusable and if they aren’t getting them back, they need to charge a deposit. Doesn’t seem too outlandish to me.

Unless you have the equipment to move a loaded pallet don't bring home the pallet. Do like we do. Let them load the truck bed with bags of whatever it is. Then I simply throw it out of the truck bed wherever my wife wants it.

Hmmm...I ordered three pallets of floor tile from Home Depot, and they never asked for a deposit, I'm guessing because the tile came from the supplier, who arrived during a time I was out-of-town, dropped them in the street and drove off. The manager and a helper from the local Home Depot drove out to my house and moved the tile into my garage for free.

I would be surprised if they didn’t.

I can see why. Three years ago, new heat-treated pallets were costing me around $ 26. each when buying 50 at a time. I would assume that they are more expensive now.

I don't understand the complaint. I guess they could add that to the price when an entire pallet is purchased.

Pass the gravy.

That’s a lot of potting soil. How much did it cost?

They charge for them and I throw the darn things away! I work with shop full of 40 year old juveniles that can't grasp moving them out of way so haul stacks of them with forklift and crush them.

If one goes to the big box stores with extremely low expectations, the whole experience will be a little easier.

I buy protein on pallets from the feed store and they never charge extra. We have some nice pallet porches and sidewalks at the lease. grin

It's a cost related to convenience and time effinciency, if you have equipment. I can buy multiple tons of feed at a time and never get it palletized. We don't utilize machinery and the pallets don't help us. I think they charge a $5 deposit and have to wrap it. If they don't do the wrap on a pallet, it is not stable.

Lyssy & Eckels in Roosevelt charges for a pallet. I got a bulk feed trailer a while back, so I don't have to mess with sacks or pallets anymore. banana2

I love Lowe's here in AZ. Never meet a person in there that doesn't go out of their way to say hello, ask if you need help, or take you right to what you're looking for. Home Depot on the other hand - I would pizz on them if they were on fire, and needed the water!!!

Pallets do make for a nice bonfires.
When we get them, I return them to the feed store for free. They are happy to get them back.

Gainesville might be one of the only places on Earth with a The Home Depot and without a Lowe's nearby.

Pass the gravy.

Doesn’t take long to unload and throw into a truck or trailer, better than a pallet deposit to me.

I do, as well. If I need help, I can actually find someone to help me. It's incredibly frustrating at HD to find help of any kind. I always see other people searching for associate, as well. Almost as bad as Walmart.
