I took my first dip of copenhagen when I was 8 or so. I have dipped off and on throughout life. I had to give it up.
From time to time I get like I just gotta have something in my lip. I use these pouches called “Grinds”. Coffee pouches with flavor added, also had taurine and b vitamins. Gives you a little pick me up, little zap of energy.

Good luck to you. I dipped for about 10 years after while getting my Masters and then at work (which had tons of guys openly dipping), but quit cold turkey 15 years ago. I don't know why that was so easy for me, but it was a gross habit and I'm glad I did. I hope you can do the same.
The triggers and cravings are hard initially. You will need to fight the withdrawal early on, but that doesn't last too long (maybe a few weeks). There are meds and patches, probably talk to your doctor. Just like anyone quitting any substance, don't give in to just one time.
I know several guys who have switched from tobacco to Zyn, which is just nicotine without the tobacco. But, I don't think that's the long term solution since they are high in nicotine.

Yeah, it's easy to quit. Staying quit is hard. I haven't figured out how to stay quit yet.

It's all in your head IF you really are done and want to quit stop doing it. That's how I quit smoking after 47 years I was tired of it and quit.

Dipped for years, dentist told me it was starting to really damage my gums.
Would force yourself to look at pictures of guys that have had their lower jaw bone removed from cancer.
Scared me straight, haven’t touched it since.
Once it turns cancerous, you’re already too late.
It ain’t worth it brother, you can do it!!

I dipped for over 40 years and quit cold turkey a little over a year ago. See your dr and have him prescribe medicine that keeps your mind level. It was the hardest vice I ever gave up, and there were several. A year later I still reach for a can on my desk out of habit. Good luck and when you start don’t give in.

Do people consider snuff and chewing tobacco the same? I never have. Skoal/copenhagen vs. levi garrett and redman.
But I digress....try zyn pouches.

No advice, but good luck! I gave up smoking when they were $0.85 a pack.

I appreciate all the advice fellas, I just threw all my cans out at the gas station this morning. I'm gonna give it my best shot. Again, I really appreciate everyone's response!

You could try nicotine pouches, but the times I have quit successfully I just went cold turkey and suffered through the cravings and bad moods for a few days that followed. If you stay on nicotine it would be easy to break down and buy more snuff. Like said staying quit is the hardest part.
I have quit snuff at least three times, once for 2-3 years but have always foolishly thought I could use it again in moderation and gotten back into the habit. I think the last time it may have started with trying one of those herbal pouches, black buffalo or whatever so I’d say if you can get off it just stick with gum or mints.
Good luck!

This doesn’t help, but I had a nurse for a mom and she was always bringing home pics of horrendous cancers and faces from tobacco. I still chews Levi Garrett in college occasionally but could never get those pics out of my head even now.

I found if I could make it 48 hours without tobacco, I could generally succeed. I was mainly a two-pack-a-day cigarette smoker. When I started out with Lucky Strikes in college in 1971, they were $2.80 per CARTON at Safeway. My final method was to drink way too much of an awful hard liquor -- Southern Comfort works great -- and get such a miserable hangover that I didn't care about anything for a couple of days, then pound the water and orange juice. I'd have stayed quit the first time, but after a couple of years, decided to dig out one of my nice old briar pipes and enjoy a bowl. Slippery slope. Good luck, as the results are sooooo worth it!

I quit cold turkey almost 10 years ago...had a scare with a bump in my lip that turned out to be no more than a blood blister. Never picked it back up...would still love to chew but felt like I sort of made a deal with the devil and not going to pick it up again. Plus, I hated that initial light headed buzz you get when you dump nicotine for a while. With your "I'm going to give it my best shot"...you'll be dipping again within 6 months. You got to want it and stick to it...it's a mental game and with that comment, you've already lost. Good luck and you'll quit when you want too.

I dipped Copenhagen for over 15 years and I would try many times to quit and fail. This may not work for anyone else, but what I discovered is that I wouldn't crave snuff until I didn't have any. As soon as I would throw my can away, I would start jonesing. As long as I had a can in my pocket, I wouldn't think about it. I also used hard candy (lemon drops) in place of snuff. That was over 20 years ago.

I quit chewing tobacco in 2009 after chewing it for over 25 years. I bought 2 cartons and knew that it was the last I would ever buy. When I got down to a few pouches I got a little anxiety about it but stuck to my decision. I quit with no problems at all. I would buy a pouch every opening weekend of deer season for the first 2-3 years afterwards and even quit that. Even forgot one season that I had bought any for 3 days after getting to my lease. Money was the deciding factor for me. In 2010 they put a big tax on chewing tobacco and I wasn`t going to pay it. You have to find a reason to want to quit and then be strong enough to do it.

Quitting tobacco is the best thing you can do for your health. You will never regret it.

I quit 30 years ago. Cold turkey without patches or gum. Sucked bad for about 2 weeks and then the craving subsided. Only good thing my first wife ever did was hold me accountable for staying away from it. Found out I liked sex more that Skoal.

Dr. told my dad when in ICU for an angioplasty that he had smoked his last cigarette as he would be in ICU for 3 days leading up to the procedure, and 4 days following procedure and the craving for nicotine went away by the 7th day. He never smoked again after about 60 years of 2-3 packs a day. Worked for him.
I've been dipping Copenhagen for 50+ years and gave it up once for about 8-9 months back in the mid 1980s. Cold turkey using ground coffee, gum, toothpicks and hard candy (Atomic Fireballs). I made the mistake of stopping in San Angelo when I was driving solo to CO for an elk/MD hunt, pulling an all nighter driving and bought a can to help keep me awake for the drive ... never gave it up after that ... It can be done but you have to put a lot of effort into it for a couple of weeks ... good luck on staying that focused

I dipped Copenhagen for 50+ years also and had only tried to quit once - that lasted till lunch time. Around a year ago, I decided I wanted to quit so tried the On nicotine pouches. Went from 8 mg to 4 mg to 2 mg then back to 4 and now back to 8. I think those damn things are more addictive than Copenhagen. I don't have a good answer, but those nicotine pouches were sure not the answer for me. Only thing I can say is that my ENT said they are not near as harmful as regular tobacco snuff. so there's that I guess.

First three days and nights are the hardest. Get past that and you should be good. Down the road, there will be times you just want something to put in your lip. Especially sitting in the stand. I usually get the “grinds” coffee pouches from Casey’s.

Nicotine gum. It’s cheaper than dip anyway (Amazon has overnight delivery, it’s sold at Target, Walmart and drug stores, too). Or Zyn-type pouches. There are several types of tobacco-free options now. I chose the gum and it’s fine. I quit tobacco before Zyn hit the market, but the gum has worked for me so I’ve stuck with it. Not trying to quit nicotine, just tobacco.
