I did not get taken - they tried to add on extras without telling me but I told them I would walk if they did not remove them

Useless law. Every bit of that can be avoided by simply reading the contract and saying no. Then taking your business to a dealer that does not do that. There always have been, and always will be unscrupulous people in this world in every business. This law won't stop anybody form being unscrupulous.

That's not going to be illegal. There's nothing wrong with that. If you're getting what they're charging for there is no crime. The stupid law is to protect people from adds that aren't material. For someone that wants a certain car but not the window tint and paint protectant, go somewhere else. It's already on the car and they're not giving it away.

Last truck I bought had a few add ons, major item was window tint. While dickering with the sales manager, I told him I was walking if the charges weren’t removed. He said he couldn’t, he wasn’t going to remove the window tint. I said I was leaving, because there was no window tint on the truck. I had just finished a test drive, and knew it wasn’t done. He left and came back, then said ok, no add ons.
Got him!

Now that's a good example! They automatically added it before it was actually complete. I bet the truck had just arrived and the tint guys were behind.

Years ago getting my daughter's first car, I tell the salesman I want the out the door price - no add on's and if the finance mgr trys to put add ons that can't be removed, I'm walking out the door. I'm paying cash, so don't know why I even have to talk to their damn finance mgr. This ahole was fighting me tooth and nail about this that and the other that they couldn't take off and I had to pay for it.

One at a time, I had to argue it to get him to take it off the price. Last one was the etched VIN #'s on the damn windows. He wouldn't budge so I got up and headed for the door. He said where you going. I said I'm leaving because I told the salesman I was going to do that if you tried to put add ons into the price. He said he took it off.

So, i finally got it for the price me and the salesman and his boss had agreed to. Life's too short to have to put up with that crap. In hindsight, I should have just kept walking.

My son used to work in banking and used to deal with car dealers. I showed him that article and he commented:

"No regulations against doubling people’s interest rates or charging quadruple for warranties?"

Yep, there's a reason dealers don't wanna deal with buyers paying cash in some cases. Still haven't figured out why some buyers think dealers want cash...
