I'll be in Point Venture on Lake Travis, had planned on making a trip up to the Blue Bonnet Cafe in M/F, but sounds like that might be a bad idea with the crowds expected.

I think 281 / 71 are going to be a nightmare if that many people show up down here, most likely I-35 also, glad I live inside a gated / controlled entry city.

Yep, been going on down here for a week now...personally if thousands of people show up for a several minute show, my opinion of the people of Texas is going way down.

People are coming from other States and even other countries. It's a not a Texan issue. The DMV called me last week and had me change the appointment for my son's driving test from 4-8 to 4-1 because of the potential traffic risk...

Pass the gravy.

We've been planning for this for awhile now. Our community is on the Burnet/Llano county line. The resort is totally sold out and has been for over a year. One floor has been taken over by NASA so they can run tests or whatever they do. STR rentals went for a $1,000.00 a night, 3 night minimum. DPS has 40 troopers stationed with us so they can have a quick reaction time. Also, DPS will have 5 patrol boats on Lake LBJ as will LCRA and TPWD. The 281 bridge in Marble Falls will be shut down to one lane each way during the eclipse to keep the traffic flowing and keep people from stopping to watch. The ranch that has all those people going to it is Reveille Ranch, an outdoor venue. There will be an open air concert on the north end of Burnet County with bands playing who follow the eclipse around the world. Most of the people who are wanting to see this will arrive friday and make an extended weekend out of it. But to be honest, I'd rather over plan than have our butts handed to us. But have no doubt, it will be a fecal show.

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm going to sit in my tripod and see how the birds and animals react to it. Can't think of anything that would make shooting a hog more memorable than killing one during a solar eclipse.

Yes, I should have said I'll be disappointed in humans, but I honestly don't know where they are going to stay here, we really don't have that many B&Bs or Hotel/Motels. All that money spent to see a couple minutes of darkness and chill...I have better ways to spend my money.

Much like the ones who sneak into Walmart to check the ammo racks.

I've been hearing about the B&Bs and Hotel/Motels being all booked up like that's some kind of indicator of the volume of people. They all book up around here for July 4th weekend too, and it's not associated with an influx of tens of millions of people.

Don't trust your Chinese eclipse glasses and blind yourself. If you couldn't watch MLB and NFL games anymore, what kind of existence would you even have?

I did not go blind in 1994 and we did not have specials glasses...just welder's goggles ( not that I am recommending this).

Welding goggles are legit compared to the 2 cent Chinese glasses.

You have to squint for them to be effective.

You can watch it on your phone with selfie mode, without getting a crick in your neck. We keep saying four minutes, but from start to finish it's much longer.

Didn't we poke a pin hole in cardboard in grade school?

And of course, someone just had to put on a 4-day Eclipse Festival in Burnet Park to draw even more idiots down here...
