There are several different covers which are all fine, even good. I'll take the OG.
My botnet is bigger than yours.

Two amazing guitar players who both died too young. Personally, I prefer Stevie Ray's version.

That’s a tough one to call.
Hard to compare SRV at Austin City limits vs. Hendrix playing in a field.
This one for me is a tie. Both were hell of a guitar players.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Giving Hedrix the nod on these two samples. Originally, listen to Hendrix on 8 track. So, could just be that memory tips the scale.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

It's not a hay field it's on top of a mountain in Maui. I have the entire concert...and about 200 additional works by Hendrix. The trouble with the quality of the recording is the wind. Note the extra muffler on the vocal mic.
I sold a Hendrix CD on eBay for almost $300 a couple years ago. You could say I am a fan boy and collector.
One of the most iconic versions of this song was played at Woodstock but then again, it's outside too. The wind plays no factor. The tough part with Hendrix on YouTube is the family is still very active in getting videos removed due to copyright infringement. I have the performance on BluRay.
But I also have the famous SRV performance at El Mocambo on BluRay and it's likely the most famous show he played. Please check "Texas Flood" from that show.
I easily vote Hendrix.
Try the live version from the Berkley Colosseum for a decent Voodo Child (Slight Return) that's played indoors. Just buy the entire concert so you can hear Jimi's cover of Johnny B Goode.
Pass the gravy.
