My son is making quite a pile of hogs bones with his. Is that considered medium game?

Myself and a couple friends have taken quite a few hogs with the Grendel. Not my favorite but it works fine.

That’s what I mostly use for hogs.

Been using one for about 20 years, very effective in a light weight AR 15 platform

Liked the Grendel enough in the AR that I had a boltaction built in it before they were available. The biggest critter I have killed with it so far is a 200lb bore hog, high shoulder shot and down right there. Not sure how many deer and other hogs but enough that I have full confidence it it. The ranges on deer and hogs have been from 20 yards to a little over 400 yards and so far nothing has gone more than 50 yards but all were with good shot placement which to me is pretty easy with the Grendel.

Something to add. I built my 6.5 Grendel AR with a fairly heavy 20" barrel. Hunting from a blind means not carrying it a lot. As said above, it's a good pig killer. Yet it has been to the 1000 yard range many more times. On an average day (107 Sierra tipped) it's easily a 700 yard shooter on steel. On VERY low wind days it hits the 1000 yard steel (2 MOA) very well. It does require a scope change and ammo change but it has slayed hogs as close as 20 yards (most quite a bit further) yet is still full of fun past 500 yards. Reloading my own ammo is a major advantage as the 123gr stuff starts to yaw at 900 yards (Here in PA). It took some work to turn the 107gr from the worst shooting bullet to the absolute best.

The only downside I see for this Grendel is for the reloader. If it is loaded up until you see pressure signs (like in a 5.56) then you are dangerously over pressure. No need to ask how I know this.

All in all it is a very great cartridge.

It really shines with the nosler 129gn ABLR. That bullet expands down to 1300fps which is easily achievable for reasonable hunting distances even out of my 12.5".
