Went out to check on dogs, come back and Yankees scored 3 and still have bases loaded. Framber had a has walked 5 and hit 1 batter before being lifted today. Astros up 4-3 and Yankees strand the bases loaded in the 5th.

Pressly comes in to pitch the 7th, gives up a double to Judge. Astros are missing the setup pitcher Abreau. Serving a 2 game suspension for allegedly intentionally hitting a batter late last season.

Pressly loads the bases, then Judge scores on a fly ball. Visitors go ahead 5-4.

Starting pitching could be the downfall this year. Valdez, Javier, Brown... the back end of the bullpen should be shut down though. Going to have to get leads early and hope to hold on to them.

OK had to look at the stats to confirm what I expected. ASTROS 13 hits one yard. YANKEES 8 hits one yard. That should win a ballgame for the ASTROS. Now let’s go to the mound. ASTROS SO 10 BB 9 HBP 1. YANKEES SO 7 BB 2. A BB and HBP is good as a hit. NOW LET’S ADJUST. ASTROS 15 hits YANKEES 18 hits. Thanks FRAMBER. We really needed that. Starting Rotation better get their $@!/ together.

Top of the order didn't do anything yesterday. Dubon looked slow getting tagged out at home. Pressly didn't give his usual outing. New manager is sorting things out.........hopefully

Poor pitching and stranded base runners led to 7-1 loss last night.

Has any team ever gone 0-162? No. Astros did have 3 consecutive seasons of losing 100+ games per season, about 10 years ago.

68, you are hanging tough. You start your own thread about your team and you know full well its gonna catch some flack. I counted 8 to 10 times you had to bite your tongue, so far. Credit for knowing when you go out in the rain, youre gonna need an umbrella. Astros fans should be proud of you. BTW, I have no problem cheering for the Astros when Im not cheering for the Rangers.

Thanks Free, been a fan since mid 60’s. Before TV, had to listen on the radio. First game I attended at the Astrodome, Colt .45 stadium was still standing in the parking lot. Saw Nolan Ryan’s first game as an Astro up in the $2 seats. Nolan hit a homer his first at bat with the Astros. And stuck with them through the 3 consecutive seasons of 100+ losses. Astros up 5-0 tonight after 4 innings. Hoping they can hold the lead.

Fully agree.

George Springer was walked as the lead off batter and next to last batter in the 9th. Heck of a pitching effort, and a great win for the Astros.

Yup. 8th MLB start ever, 1st complete game, 1st shutout, 1st no-no (obviously), earliest season no-no in MLB history, and Espada's first managerial win.

I thought Astros fans were worried about the rotation and they get a no hitter in the first week.

I thought Astros fans were worried about the rotation and they get a no hitter in the first week. While I think there were questions with the number of injuries, the current rotation has the 2nd lowest ERA in the bigs thus far. It's the bullpen that's been crapping the bed. That and Alvarez and Bregman are ice cold right now too.

It looks like Dana Brown crapped the bed on the Hader deal. Astros do not appear to be playing well for Espada. I’m trying to understand why Espada would move Alvarez from an RBI to a set he table position in the batting order?

I think at the end of the day, it comes down to getting your best hitters the most number of at-bats. At this point, I'm not really concerned. A few folks just need to find theselves and their groove. It's only a matter of time... this team is too talented.

Still a chance to split the series. And I have a chance to draw a N.M. elk tag this year also....but I hate my odds lol. Astros got 2 runs in 1st game of this series late in game and needed an error by one of the best SS in baseball to get the 2 runs they got last night. Rangers in all likely hood take 3/4 but the odds of sweeping are FAR GREATER than the astros splitting this series. Its a yo yo with these 2 teams. Yu darvish once made Houston look like HS players, then they got built and made some noise. Now its the rangers turn again

Still a chance to split the series. Wishful thinking Well, this is an Astros thread. I’m sure there’s plenty of room on the Rangers thread for the naysayers. I seem to remember some pretty crappy Ranger teams before last season. Lots of bandwagon fans.

I grew up in Corpus Christi, TX a pretty equal fan of both, plus they were in separate leagues, May have even leaned to Stros with Nolan Ryan, JR Richard and Joe "Sambo" Sambito out of the pen, Enos Cabell, Doran, Ashby and the guys in field, later Biggio, Bagwell, Caminiti, Bass, Mike Scott and the rest of them. You are correct, Stros rebuilt and struggled in early teens and Rangers for a few years before last. All cyclical as most sports; just looks like age is catching up with Abreu, Pressly and a few others, not named Altuve. Lol

They then had a short run with now dead druggies when they were wearing cream and crimson (much like OU). They moved and sucked again until they cheated. The got CAUGHT cheating but kept cheating. Then they swapped managers to another cheater (he did so in the 2023 ALCS) and when that didn't work, he retired. Take the brag medicine Astros fans deserve and be quiet until you win at least three games...wait..four because it took a no-no to win one of the two.

Astros fans, just like Rangers fans, deserve no medicine. I practically grew up in the Dome, but fully admit to being a fan of both teams. But there will be NO petty trolling in either of the Astros' or Rangers' threads. Wanna be a petty troll, start your own thread. These threads are for the discussion of the merits of each team's 2024 season, by anyone. Thanks, folks, and enjoy the season. Will post this in the Rangers thread as well.

Framber scratched from tonight's game. Stros have called up one of their prospects to start tonight.

Brutal first inning with this rookie pitcher. Please take him out. 5 runs and no outs. And another error on Abreau.

After 39 pitches and only one out, plus 5 runs they pull the rookie.

Interesting call bringing Henley up as he wasn't exactly dominating in the minors. Felt bad for the kid, though.

Now its the rangers turn again Looks like the odds of splitting the series WERE FAR GREATER than Rangers taking 3/4. Final score Astros 10-5.

Brutal first inning with this rookie pitcher. Please take him out. 5 runs and no outs. And another error on Abreau. Not sure why they brought him up. Maybe due to different rotation and days of rest of others. But he had a 5+ ERA in AAA and supposedly didn't do very good when he was in AA either. Hopefully they send him back down and can get some of his issues worked out.

I tell you…what’s happening to pitchers (aces) is pretty alarming. The Astros and Rangers have (if you count Valdez) 8 starters on IL.
Not to mention aces for Cleveland, Atlanta, Yankees and others out for the season, ot at least a good part of it.
Are pitchers becoming like running backs? Get ‘em, use ‘em up and get more? Problem is also the money being paid.
At some point fans aren’t going to be interested in a matchup of Andrew Heaney and Blair Henley….

My thought is starting kids too young. I have a nephew that didn’t make it to HS ball due to being pushed too hard, too young. Some young pitchers getting Tommy John surgery, not. Really needing it yet. And Verlander is just too old to be out there, in my opinion. But if someone offered me that kind of money, I’d take the money and try to pitch longer.

I thought they should have left him In Chicago last season. I think he only has a 2 year contract, hopefully he won’t be back next season. His batting average was .067 at the start of tonight’s game.not sure of how many errors he’s had. I’ve lost count.

Definitely not a smart move by the stros. I tell you…what’s happening to pitchers (aces) is pretty alarming. The Astros and Rangers have (if you count Valdez) 8 starters on IL.

At some point fans aren’t going to be interested in a matchup of Andrew Heaney and Blair Henley…. Verlander thinks its the fact that pitchers now are trying to throw as hard a possible now to get strike outs as opposed to pitch placement and speed variation. I tend to agree with him.

Don’t think they could play any worse right now. Kinda like watching the bad news bears. The manager has the deer in the headlights look. I believe he’s overwhelmed. 6 pitchers on the injured list isn’t helping the situation. It’s gonna be a long season.

I think this is a pitching issue. Bagwell made a great observation last night about how those issues cascade across the entire team. The offense is feeling tremendous pressure to make up for the bad pitching, which causes them to get outside of their own game, make base-running mistakes, swing at bad pitches, etc. Even Verlander just getting back on the roster should be a confidence booster.
That said, no team who scores 8 runs should lose. But you just cannot expect an offense to score double-digits every night in MLB in order to win, which is basically what they've had to do so far.

Stros offense and pitching looks solid right now; Rangers not so much...Pretty pedestrian offense this series and last vs Oakland for them. As said, long season to go....

That 2nd inning was going great and then it fell apart real quick. I think the 9th inning was the worst. Another bad outing by another overpaid pitcher.

Anther sweep, by the opposing team, ugh. Hope they enjoy their day off before the next road trip.

Blackout on mlb.tv so I'm watching the Washington hometown broadcast... gotta say, the commentators don't suck. Very respectful of the talented lineup, especially as the Stros dropped four straight hits, including three straight doubles on the board. Good inning.

I’m not sold on Espada. Batting order seems a bit screwy to me. Struggle to understand the reasoning behind moving Alvarez from an RBI spot in the lineup to a table setter in the two hole. Also don’t understand why Tucker who is the best base runner on the team is hitting behind average speed at best which hampers his ability to run. Before anyone says it, armchair coaching is part of the fun of being a diehard fan.

Joe Espada is hoping the division will play down to the Astros and not continue to run away. Ain’t happening Joe. It just ain’t happening. This team better start stringing some games together.

At least you don’t see team members getting arrested and kicked off the team.

With leaders a game > .500, no one is lighting it up in this division. This one will likely be decided in mid to late Sept. All of these teams have enough questions, concerns around timely and consistent hitting and getting good starting and relief pitching throughout season.

It's amazing... I think the Stros are leading MLB in hits... just goes to show you how critical pitching is. Leading the league in hits but dead in the middle of the pack in runs scored. With the Astros starting pitching staff in shambles and bullpen depth thin this year, the Astros need to win with offense till they get healthy. I hope Espada proves me wrong but he appears to be in over his head so far. At any rate he is not getting close to league average run production for the numbers of Astros hitters reaching base.

JP France gave up 5 runs in the first inning, again. I went to a day game last year, the first game I went to in 15+ years, he gave up 10 runs in 2.1 innings. They lost 17-1 against the Red Sox.

Abreau moved to IL, with .099 batting average for the season. Bringing up rookie from AAA, it can only improve the lineup. Astros string together 2 wins over the weekend.
