freerange suggested an intro, so here goes... moved to Texas in 2009 from.... you guessed it so calif. a little backstory. i started working for my old boss in 1992. he was born and raised in san antonio, after Vietnam he moved to so calif and ran a little machine shop. in 2004 he had had enough and moved back to Texas. in 2009 i moved out here to run the shop because of his failing health, he passed away in 2015 and i could either spit the profits from selling off the shop with his wife or spend the next ten years making payments to his wife. i took a chance and bit off alot more then i could chew, plus i found out shop was 30k in the debt. sometimes you gotta take the good along with the bad. i have about another year then i am paid off, the shop, land, and the equipment. knocked off that 30k debt in the first year. couple years ago started looking for a little place to get away. got a small place only 50ac but its within a tank of gas... yep out in edwards county... i know many just call them mouth breather ranches, but its olny way for a little guy to afford any land without breaking the bank. hunting has been pretty good so far, love shooting the hogs, i have been camping since i was little and always been an outdoors person mostly backpacking and fishing. alot of trips to the eastern serrias up hwy395. ok now the really important stuff.... ice tea- i prefer unsweet or sun tea. i drink a gallon of tea a day in summer to keep cool, but sweet tea does have its place, like with fried chicken, corn bread, and beans. trucks- dodge, i have always been a mopar fan. baseball hats- yep flat brim all day, chili- ill take mine with beans please, chili without beans is just kinda like hot dog sauce, i know them is fightin words to some on here hahaha . for guns... rifle-350 legend most of my shooting is about 50 yards from the feeder, pistols- im a wheel gun guy, but i put together one of those gucci ghost gun g19 copies, i use it mainly for a flashlight walking to and from the blind. you might tell from the username i do like me some aircooled vws and have a few of them. i have learned alot just lurking, and there is so much good info here to be had. thanks! GG is going to flip out. Our resident English teacher. Welcome. You have a big pair to admit you're from Cali.

Welcome to the forum, and Texas. A man can't help where he's brought up, hat's off for recognizing Texas for the great state it is. Machining is interesting to me. I've been on the commercial side of it 30 years and really appreciate the talent of a skilled machinist. I did have to learn how to read prints long ago and that really opened my eyes to what programmers, machinists and inspectors can do. Tell us all you care to about your shop. What machines, capabilities, programming, inspection equipment, etc. do you have. Every now and then questions come up here as it relates to machining and manufacturing in the gun world. It would be great to be able to ask you a question or tow every now and then.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I don't know anything about Cali weather, but you will have that windows down air cooled bug up for sale to some Austin-ite by early summer.

snakewrangler i am east of sa, its a 1 man gang at the shop, just me, had few employees, but no one wants to work anymore, especially in a machine shop out in the sticks. i use couple rotary phase converters to get my 3 phase out here kinda a dirty way to do it, and my newest mill with the next gen controll is super volt sensitive to the voltages especially in summertime that pic of the bug... i see a better then 50% chance of catching an std hahaha, thanks for all the welcoming, been out here for 15 years now and its the best place ever... i would be on team low fence if i had to choose between the two

My neighbor is from California. He's okay for a liberal, anti-gun, tree hugging, animal rights espousing freak. But I'm sure you will fit right in.

Water is 95% of my beverage choice, sweet tea at dinner and a bourbon or two to follow. No beans when done right, you’ll learn one day. Right on, still get over 20mpg in my 2016 hemi. You loose me with the flat bill hat, but to each their own. Same thing with the green stuff. Welcome to the forum regardless.

Howdy. Edwards county can have a whole bunch of trespassers going through your land especially on the west side closer to Val Verde County. Be careful around any wild critter carcass you find out there.
