All done! This started life as a Parker GH 0 frame 20ga. Ive sleeved it to 28ga w/34” barrels. I Also restocked with a stunning piece of Turkish walnut to the owners provided dimensions and style. Got it to 6lbs 15oz and balances 3/4” in front of hinge. A little weight in the stock will bring it back. Briley installed their thin wall choke tubes. Turnbull CCH’ing Why you’ll ask? The owner wanted this(and a matching 20ga) for dedicated sporting clays guns, specifically for sub gauge competitions in the Vintagers shoots.

I do have a question or two about the color case hardening. Did you farm that out to Turnbull, or was there another reason they were chosen for it? Is that a process that you can do? What all is involved in it?

Turnbulls did the color case hardening on it.
While I have done CCH’ing in past employment, I’m not currently setup to do it due to needing a furnace. Also Turnbulls is boringly consistent, and one might find comfort in relinquishing liability in a process that can lead to issues.
The process involves annealing the parts to be colored. They are then polished to desired level, degreased, and put into a steel crucible holding your parts, bone, charcoal, sometimes leather, and numerous other bits including a drop of virgin blood infused snake oil. The parts are brought up to temperature(approx 1400f), held there for a certain period, then brought out and quickly dumped into aerated water. There are many things and tricks I’m leaving out, but that’s the jist of it.
