The wooden stock is not my favorite thing about it, The Sako has my vote on that account, but I cant gripe about the trigger, the slick bolt, or the accuracy right out of the box.

What's not to like??

It doesn’t even have bottom metal. It has bottom plastic. There is no such thing as a Tikka short action. It is a long action with a bolt stop.

Blasphemy. Winchester model 1894 is no [censored] gun and has never been chambered in 6.5 creedmoor.

Dang it Smith and Wesson, you are on a tear.

Bryan is now 10 gauge?

Wilson, I liked your creedmoor comments. All kidding aside though, load some 156 round noses in a 6.5 and go shoot some stuff.

GREAT THREAD!

These sorts of questions sure don't bring out the best in us. It's just a pissing match. The problem is we just love a good pissing match. Carry on my friends!

Probably but the P7 is pretty cool.

I really don’t think the 6.5CM is overhyped. It does deliver. It might be over-praised by under-informed folks.

I’ve hesitated to say it, but I have always thought the pre-64 Winchester Model 70 has been over hyped. The one I had was a heavy old boat anchor, and not that accurate. After a while I sold it and bought a Sako. Of course, if you had to beat a bull moose to death, the Model 70 would be a good choice.

And the 1911 has cult status, but doesn’t deserve it in this day and age. Too many better options out there.

P7 is pretty cool as is the MK23, but P30, VP9, USP…Meh.

IMO, many want to own a pre-64 Winchester just so that can say they own a pre-64 Winchester. And then there are those who pay large sums of money for one that's never been fired outside the factory with no intention of ever shooting it themselves. Who knows, maybe that's as far as they can see themselves getting to owning a classic car and never driving it.

Maybe it’s similar to owning a Rolex.
I don’t own a Rolex but I do own more than one pre 64 Winchester.

But, freerange, do ya hunt with them? Or do ya just “have them”?

Years ago, when I was making mucho money, I considered buying a Rolex. All the hot shot oil traders had one, and I was a hot shot trader. I just couldn’t buy it just to be cool. And the time keeping is less than precise. I did buy one for the wife, on our 50th anniversity, a pretty one with small diamonds. She loves it, but mostly wears her Apple Watch. And that is probably why folks want less Rolex watches than they did. It’s a lot of money for something that won’t call your friends or remind you to pick up your dry cleaning. A Rolex is a show-off thing for most folks - saying, without saying, that I have a lot of money. Of course, that’s just my thinking on it.

Not a bad investment though.

Admittedly, I was struggling with the right verbiage. Ok, I give up. The 6.5CM is the most over hyped firearm ever. And maybe over rated, but not by folks like us.

And to eyedoc, there’s nothing at all wrong with a pre-64 Model 70. I really wanted one, but when I finally got one, it was just another heavy old rifle. It did the job too, but I just didn’t love it. Maybe mine wasn’t shiny enough to suit me. Hence, the Sako…

Never saw a need to jump on 6.5 CM wagon, just grab my 6.5 Swede or 6.5 Rem Mag, both work well when called upon

Having both a .243 and 25-06, I never got into 6.5CM either, but I haven’t hunted game with fur since the popularity boom of the cartridge.

He's got one of the most worn rifles I've ever seen. Over 50 years of hunting with a Pre-64 Win 70 in .30-06. Chipped off polyurethane, dents in the wood, raw metal that used to be blued. I love it! Oh the stories it could tell. After all those years the wood forearm moved and was touching the barrel. The stock did have pillars, and the front bedding job by Winchester. I free floated the barrel again, reinstalled the scope, and checked zero. Two shots with no paper in between them, exactly where it was supposed to be zeroed.

Back in the day, if he was hunting with us, and I saw that rifle, he’d get the passenger seat spot for sure. The guy that showed up with the Uzi did not ride on my jeep.

Gonna have to call BS on this one. The Model 12 is the finest pump shotgun ever produced. Winchester stopped making them only because they couldn’t compete with the lower cost of the 870. As far as the Ithaca Model 37 goes, light weight isn’t always preferable and loading a shell directly into the chamber isn’t possible in their bottom eject action.

the Ithica Model 37 was the first gun I bought (with my own money) when I was about 12 years old. All we shot was reloads back then and we shot the same loads at doves and ducks. My shoulder would be purple by the end of a good day!!
