I have managed to catch a nasty cold. The wife went into town for grocery shopping and to get me some Chicken Noodle soup. I’m not sure what chicken noodle soup is gonna do to make me well, but, it was pretty good. But man, it was really salty. I wonder why folks oversalt soups. Any of you ever notice that?

Heck yes I do, especially restaurant food. I hardly ever salt food anymore, but I do like lots of pepper.

When we get queso in restaurants now, all it tastes like to me is salted cheese. Not that I over salted my foods in the past and cut back, I just am careful these days, but damn it's just not appealing anymore.

Our country has been hooked on salt for many years now. Sodium is the easiest way to make food last longer. It’s one of the main causes of high blood pressure.

Have to admit that salt on a Margarita never tastes bad.

Can be if you are not active. However I quit listening to the recommendations and fears from many of the agencys. I am very active and put salt on everything, eat around 3 dz eggs a week, and red meat daily if not multiple times a day. My BP is always in check, bloodwork always good. My opinion is not being active and garbage food is the catalyst for bad health and disease. Not preaching, but eating tenderloin everyday, feel great and let the chips fall where they fall.

I was referring to shelf stable food like from the frozen food or canned food sections of a grocery store and the snack food that millennials are hooked on. Look at the sodium content of ramen noodles or a bag of chips. I eat a lot of red meat and eggs too. I prefer duck eggs though.

Can't handle salty food. It makes my fingers feel fat the next day. There is a restaurant/bar close to my house called The Rustic and I had to quit going there because they over salt the food so badly.

I am not a big salter, but some things like french fries and eggs must have plenty of salt.

Salt is vital for life and you will die without it. Too much is also not good. I think that it isn't as bad for heart health as they hype it up to be.

Restaurants use a LOT of salt as a flavor enhancer.

Too much salt leads to water retention aka water weight. I’m on a 1500 mg daily salt restriction. It’s tough, especially when traveling. The first six weeks of reducing salt intake, all food tastes bland.
As far as salt not being bad for your heart health, you should ask a cardiologist. He may not agree with you.

That is a baseline number used for inactive people based off Govt agency guidelines. It does not take into consideration activity level, daily salt loss during sweat etc. Basically it is a worst case scenario broadbrushed based off the most salt sensitive folks. I have read researchers who specifically ran studies ( Dr James Nicolantonio) which spells this out. My bottom line is I want to know why a doc has made a reccomendation and vet that out for myself. If you are eating 1,500 a day yes it will keep you from the issues you stayed above, but it may not be necessary

It is necessary due to heart issues.

I did and that is how I formed my opinion. He said that reducing salt intake is to lessen water retention so your heart doesn't have to work quite as hard and that it is a useful tool when treating people with severe heart issues but the salt itself is not necessarily harmful.

The fluid retention increases the volume of blood which causes high blood pressure. As if high blood pressure isn’t bad enough for the heart, it will destroy the kidneys.

Stage 3 kidney problems, Nephrologist has me on a 700mg diet or as best I can which is very low. That can be done but you are eating your own cooking for just about everything. lo sodium diet is 1500mg/day. So far it has worked pretty good 6 years and kidney numbers are very close to that they were when we started that. Cardiologist isn't complaining about that either.
