Never visited TikTok, so would not affect me at all. That being said, if they ban it, what will they try and ban next?

Right bigbob, that's always the right first answer. But, if we are being told the truth about Tic Toc, and the Chinese government really is stealing data and feeding targeted videos to stir the feral humans, then something needs to be done. I hate the fact of an unchecked government regulation beyond its charter, but (again), if we are being told the truth, then China is conducting psyops warfare against the USA. cm250, your thought is true too and I agree.

We were told years ago at work that we weren't allowed to have ticktock on our phones because of chinese spying. The millennials cried about it so work allowed it. All they do is watch it all day and try to be like the ones they see on it.

If government wants to do something, have them pass a law that doesn't let your phone spy on you. Don't let it listen to you without your knowledge.

I understand that it is owned by a Chinese company and therefore they have to do what the Chinese government says but we are forcing it to be sold to an American. Who says the American isn’t going to do bad things with the data? Do we think someone like Mark Zuckerberg or the former owner of Twitter are better? Facebook, Apple, Google, and others do business in China and have to do what the Chinese government says in order to do so. Do we not think the Chinese government hasn’t gotten info from them? Why no ban on them? Also we have allowed all sorts of Chinese into our Universities that we know have stolen information that has harmed our Universities, Country, and Companies and nothing has been done to stop that. Why not?

If our government did that, then THEY couldn’t listen in.

The ban is more about the app being installed on government computers and devices and less about people watching videos in a browser. Same with some of the chinese cameras, dvrs and other network devices. Several years back the chinese snuck in extra components on server motherboards manufactured there. Sneaky bastards.

That has already happened on the Federal level and on many state levels this bill would ban the app from all app platforms if the company that currently ownes it does not sell it within six months. Also from what I understand the bill requires it to be sold to an American.

To be fair, it isnt a Tik Tok ban, it simply states that Parent company must sell the US Market of Tik Tok to a US company.

The vote in the House was like 352 to 65, so it appears most agreed on the issue, which is good, however it could be a 1st Amendment issue. I don't know a bunch about the bill, but it would give TicTok a certain time period to sell or the application stores would not be allowed to offer TicTok for download, according to news sources. Sounds like our government simply trying to control what we are allowed to see or hear; they claim it could be a national security threat, but then some in our government claim some of us are national security threats...so

Government regulation is rarely the correct answer...rest assured, freedoms were lost yesterday...very likely we won't know what those were for a few quarters.

It was interesting watching FOX news this morning, Brain Kilmeade and Senator Rand Paul were arguing hard over TIK TOK.

They’re not worried about the Chinese or Tik Tok. They’re worried about the fact they can’t censor Tik Tok to meet their political agenda. Tik Tok is no different than Facebook in their ability to do these things and old zuckerbucks just sells the info instead of using it nefariously.

Did you know there’s a conservative movement on Tik Tok? Now you do.

These sites have destroyed our youths who at least HAD a chance to be part of a productive society.

Shut TT down, force these kids to go to work. for real. 1 in a million actually create a social media site which will provide a "living" and then, for how long?

I blocked it over a year ago on our company firewall.
