Awhile back my antenna broke off. Stem was stuck in the base. I tried a few things, nothing really worked. So I gave up for awhile.

One suggestion was to use a left handed drill bit. I didn’t have one, and happened to see a set at harbor freight. I tried it, no luck.

Having never used a left handed drill bit, I thought maybe I was doing it wrong. So I reversed the drill and it came right out. Apparently it’s very important when using left handed drill bits to reverse the drill.

Stuff like that happens, to all of us….

Sometimes you get lucky and it will pull the broken bolt out.

Nothing is worth doing just once.

I find the 3rd time I do something, I do it right.

I took my antenna off and put a bolt in it for a flush fit. Surprisingly it still works from Forney to wherever the radio stations are, but I never listen to radio anymore.

True. It was worked surprisingly well without an antenna. I can get 105.3 out to Athens.

I thought the "rule" was to use a coat hanger when that happens?

I had a Jack In the Box clown head on mine when they came out but the whipping it caused eventually broke the mast off while doing 80 on US82.

Pass the gravy.

I took the one on my Tundra off right after I bought it. FM reception was fine without the antenna. AM radio didn't work at all without it.

Thanks,
Rich

But if you're out of gray tape how do you secure it?

That's because FM is frequency modulation and AM is amplitude modulation. Same reason cars in the '60's had the same length antenna masts.

Pass the gravy.
