What is out there? I never got the lightfield slugs back in the day and now the 3.5” is apparently gone forever. So, what else is out there?
Slug, waterfowl, turkey load, buckshot, whatever. Looking for the highest energy and very stout recoil. Shooting mostly for S’s and G’s.
Fastest vs heaviest payload, too.
I want to achieve maximum overkill!

Bryan out of curiosity what is the goal? I followed along with this thinking regarding rifle loads as well and was curious then. Im afraid when you do start hand loading you’re going to blow yourself up.

I mostly just want to blow up water jugs and 3 litres, and maybe swat some vermin. It is always a good time when you bring out the nastiest shotgun shells you can find and have 20 or 30 3-liter sodas at a get together.
I have no interest in a rifle round without decent accuracy. If it makes you feel better my hand loading is on the back burner until i close on my home.
The 3.5” hevi shot speedball is by far the most spectacular performance on the 2.75 liter dollar store sodas. They vanish in a explosion of vapor and the scraps of bottle look like they came from a lawnmower. I think mine are #3 steel mixed with “equivalent bismuth”. Probably 3’s and 5’s.

Sounds like you need a 10 gauge in the collection.

Looks like an old april fools joke or something Sounds like you need a 10 gauge in the collection. It will be next. Mossberg 835 is the next best thing and not far from it. I love mine. I want an 18” bps pump with a mag extension.

If i could free up the spare $ i would probably buy a case of Winchester’s 3.5” #4 buck. It’s got 54 pellets. The right choke and you would still have pattern density good enough to hunt birds and small game.
I bet it is a great varmint round. 2 AND 4 legged varmints.

I have some Fiocchi 3.5" Golden Goose T shot, not too expensive as far as 3.5" shells go. Not too far removed from #4 Buck but legal for waterfowl hunting.

Steel T’s are nowhere close to lead 4 buck. It is about like a lead bb. Still a hellacious load though. Especially with the speed of a waterfowl load

I don't buy shotshells, but this could be seen as relevant or maybe just a bit entertaining if you'll indulge me.
About 15 years ago, Cast gave me a Remington 870 and a bunch of 3-1/2" hulls for Christmas. And a bag of #4 buck. So naturally, I found a recipe for it.
Remington SP Remington 209 PSTS / Remington TGT-12 / 2 oz. 04 Buck / 34.0 grains Hodgdon Longshot / 1215 fps
After I loaded about 100 of these up I felt the need to test fire a few rounds. Cast and I piled into the Gator and cruised out to "no-man's land" about half a mile behind our houses. I don't recall how many I fired, but my first impression was "holy mother of Zeus!" and the two or three I fired after that were no less impressive.
I haven't fired a single round of those loads since but if I happen to see T rex out back I'll be ready.

Relevant to me! These winchesters have 12 more pellets, listed at 1150 fps https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2900513075If it were legal for all game I would probably buy a pallet of this stuff and a pallet of lead BB and be set for life, or until i got too old to handle 3.5” shells

Geeze. I think that's about 2-1/2 ounces of lead. It may buck a little.
LOL.

Just go get a single shot 10 gauge and a box of duck loads. After that’s beat the s*** out of you, sell it to the next idiot.

I usually start by looking at which Brennekes are available. The 3.5" Black Magic slugs go through nearly anything. I have hunted Moose with them and get complete pass throughs from any angle.
